How to Remove Incorrect Colour or Missing Lines - Nozzle Cleaning

If you find that the printout is unexpectedly faint or that dots are missing, you may be able to identify the problem by checking the print head nozzles.

You can check the printer head nozzle from the product by using the buttons on the touch screen.

Using the Control Panel to preform a Nozzle Check

Follow the steps below to check the printer head nozzles using the product control panel.

  1. Make sure that no warnings or errors are indicated in the control panel.

  2. Make sure that A4-size paper is loaded in the paper cassette.

  3. Enter Setup mode from the Home menu.

  4. Select Maintenance.

  5. Select Nozzle Check.

  6. Press Start

Below are two sample nozzle check patterns.

Compare the quality of the printed check page with the sample shown below.

Good Nozzle Check

If there are no print quality problems, such as gaps or missing segments in the test lines, the print head is fine. No head cleaning is required.

If any segment of the printed lines is missing,as shown below,this could mean a clogged ink nozzle or a misaligned print head. Head cleaning is required to improve print quality. See Cleaning the Print Head section below.

Cleaning the Print Head

If you find that the printout is unexpectedly faint or that dots are missing,you may be able to solve these problems by cleaning the printer head, which ensures that the nozzles are delivering ink properly.

You can clean the print head from your computer using the buttons on the touch panel of the product.

Caution:

  • Do not open the scanner unit or turn off the product, during head cleaning. If the head cleaning is incomplete, you may not be able to print.

  • Do not insert the CD/DVD tray is removed, and the output tray is ejected.
Note:

  • Use the nozzle check utility first to confirm that the print head needs to be cleaned. This saves ink.

  • To maintain print quality, we recommend printing a few pages on a regular basis.

  • Because print head cleaning uses some ink from all cartridges, clean the print head only if quality declines; for example if the printout colour is incorrect.

  • When ink is low you may not be able to clean the print head. When ink is expended you cannot clean the print head. Replace the appropriate ink cartridge first.

Follow the steps below to clean the print head using the product control panel.

  1. Make sure no warning or errors are indicated in the control panel.

  2. Enter Setup mode from the Home menu.

  3. Select Maintenance.

  4. Select Head Cleaning.

  5. Start to clean the print head.
