RELATES TO:

  • Wireless networking
  • Setup and installation
  • Network availibility

EXPLANATION:

Q: How do I know which wireless network name (SSID) to select if multiple networks appear when I install the printer software?

A: The software will display all wireless networks available by the order of their signal strength, and your SSID will probably be listed at the top of the list. The SSID name is set by the router or access point.

The default name is often the brand name/manufacturer of the router/access point, however if your router/access point was supplied by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) then the default SSID name may include the ISP name.

Note:

If you do not have the SSID or network key information, we advise the following:

  • Check the wireless router, sometimes this information is on a sticker on the underside of the router.
  • Check the documentation supplied by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or the person who setup the wireless network.
  • Check the documentation that came with your wireless router on how to find out this information (e.g. if not the default, it should be available via the router manufacturer's configuration utility).
  • Contact your ISP for advice on how to find this information.

If you see an SSID (such as Linksys or Netgear) listed more than once, you may want to change the name on the router/access point. See your router or access point's documentation for the instructions. Please note that the name must be changed before the printer software is installed.
