Description
This article covers the five most common problems when using Epson ScanSmart. Find your symptom below.
Symptoms
- Pressing the scanner button does not start scanning
- Scanned images are not cropped correctly
- Cannot send to the cloud service
- Scanning speed is slow
- Files are named with an old date
Solution
Click on the issue that matches your problem below to expand it and view the fix.
Pressing the Scanner Button Does Not Start Scanning
- Click the Settings icon in the Epson ScanSmart window > Scanner Settings tab > Change, to confirm or re-pair the scanner with your computer.
- Make sure no other computer is connected by USB — a USB connection takes priority over Wi-Fi. Disconnect it if one is connected.
- Make sure Epson ScanSmart and any other required applications are installed correctly.
- Check that your Wi-Fi connection is working.
- Try turning your wireless router off and back on.
- Make sure the correct scanner is selected: click Change in the Epson ScanSmart window, select your scanner, then click OK.
- macOS: make sure the network with priority on your Mac is the one your scanner is on.
Scanned Images are Not Cropped Correctly
- When scanning photos, make sure Maximum Size is selected for the Scan area.
- When scanning documents, select the correct size for the Scan area.
Cannot Send to the Cloud Service
- Make sure you're entering the correct login details.
- Make sure the service itself is running — it may be down for maintenance. Check that cloud service's own website for status information.
- Lower the resolution and scan again — high resolutions take longer.
- Certain image adjustment features in Epson Scan 2 can also slow scanning down.
- Click the Settings icon in the Epson ScanSmart window > Scanner Settings tab > Scan Settings. If Quiet Mode is enabled in Epson Scan 2, this can reduce scanning speed — open Epson Scan 2's settings, select the Scan tab, and clear Quiet Mode.
- Colour scans from the ADF can be slower. On models where it's available, try "Increases the scan speed using the black & white setting."
Files are Named with an Old Date
Note: This feature is only available on specific models.
- On supported models, the file name's date is automatically detected from the scanned content itself, not the date you scanned it.
- To use the actual scan date instead, clear Automatic file naming (OCR detects subject and date) on the File Name Settings tab — see Epson ScanSmart: Changing Settings.
