How Can I Erase Personal Fax Information Stored in the Memory of My All-In-One?

Applies To

Description

Your Epson product can store names and telephone numbers in its memory, which are kept even when the power is turned off. We recommend erasing this if you give the product to someone else, or when you dispose of it.

Important: Restore Default Settings is a menu with several separate options, not one single action — and they don't all do the same thing. Choosing the wrong one can reset more than just your fax data, including your Wi-Fi and network settings. Read both options below before choosing one.

Solution

Press the home button if necessary, then select Settings > Restore Default Settings (some models: Setup > Restore Default Settings). Which option to choose depends on what you want to achieve.

You Only Want to Erase Fax Contacts and Data

Use this if you're keeping the printer on the same network (for example, handing it to someone else in your home or office) and don't want to have to reconnect it to Wi-Fi afterwards.

  • On models with a separate Fax Data Settings option, select that. This specifically erases the speed dial list, group dial list, header, and fax log — without resetting your fax's functional settings, network settings, copy settings, or scan settings.
  • On models where fax data isn't split out separately, select Fax Settings instead. This resets your stored fax data along with your fax's functional settings (such as send/receive configuration), but still leaves your network, copy, and scan settings untouched.
Note: Exact option names vary by model and firmware generation. Check your product's own User's Guide, downloadable from the Epson Support site, to confirm which option your model offers.

You're Giving Away or Disposing of the Printer Entirely

Use this if the printer is leaving your network for good — for example, being sold, donated, or recycled.

  • Select Clear All Data and Settings (on some models: Reset All Settings). This resets everything on the control panel and deletes all stored information — including fax data, network/Wi-Fi settings, copy settings, and scan settings.
Note: This is the appropriate choice for this scenario, since you'll also want your Wi-Fi password and other stored data removed before the printer leaves your possession — not just the fax data. Be aware it means the next user must go through initial setup again, including reconnecting to a network.

After selecting an option, confirm at the prompt to complete the reset. Refer to your product's User's Guide for the exact steps and menu wording for your specific model.
