How can I install my Epson All-In-One product on Windows Vista if I do not have the CD-ROM?

EXPLANATION:



Windows Vista drivers are available for your product from the Epson website. This article explains how to download and install them.




    Support for Windows Vista


    Epson is committed to supporting Vista and is continually developing applications and device driver across our range of digital imaging products to comply with Microsoft's global standards.

    Vista supports many Epson printers right out of the box. Some products are supported with printer drivers available through Microsoft's Windows Update service. For other products, Vista drivers are available to download from the Epson Support website.

    All Epson models released after June 1st 2007 have Vista driver included on the Epson Software CD-ROM.

    Printer and scanner drivers are two separate files. You will require both to use the scanning and printing features of your All-In-One product with a computer.



SOLUTION:


  1. Power off the All-In-One and disconnect it from the computer. You should only power it on and connect it when prompted to do so by the printer driver installation program.

  2. Open the Epson Support website by clicking here for the UK, or here for Europe.

    Notes Icon Note:

    The examples and images in this article use Internet Explorer 7 as the Internet browser.

    • Some of the options available to you will vary if you use a different browser, such as Firefox or a later version of Internet Explorer.

      File names also vary, as they are different for each product model.


  3. Enter your product model in the search box and click on the selection. The Support page will load and will automatically detect your computer's operating system. If you need to download a driver for a different operating system and will later transfer the file to a computer running that system, change the selection as appropriate.

    If you have used the European Support site link (above), you will need to select the product range, product, and OS operating system) from the three drop-down menus. Click below for futher instructions.




    1. Select All-In-One from the first drop-down menu:


    2. Select the product model from the second menu (e.g. Stylus DX4400):


    3. Select the appropriate Windows Vista operating system (OS) from the third menu:
      • Select Windows Vista for 32-bit Vista.
      • Select Windows Vista x64 for 64-bit Vista.

      If you are not sure which version of Windows Vista you have, check it as follows:


      1. Open Control Panel, then System.
      2. The version is shown under System Type.


    4. Click the Confirm Selection button.


  4. Click on Drivers & Software




  5. To download a file, click on download opposite the required file.



    • EPSON Scan is the scanner driver, e.g. EPSON Scan (3.0ze) in this example.
    • Driver is the printer driver, e.g. Driver (6.51) in this example.

      Notes Icon Note:

      Important:
      Make a note of the file names, which may be different to the examples in this article. You will need to be able to identify which is EPSON Scan, and which is the printer Driver.



    • Alternatively, you can click on the file name, e.g. Driver (6.51), to view further details about the file. Then click the proceed to download button.

  6. Select Save when the Security Warning appears.





  7. Select Desktop, then click Save. The file will begin to download to your Desktop.







    Notes Icon Note:

    Browsers that use a download manager, e.g.Firefox, may download to the Desktop or another location automatically. You will need to know the location and name of the file in order to install it.



  8. When the file has downloaded, the Download Complete window will appear:




    1. If you need to download another driver, click Close, and then return to Step 5.
    2. Otherwise, click Close and proceed to Step 9.

  9. Install EPSON Scan first. Skip to Step 10 if you only need to install the printer driver.




    1. Navigate to the location of the file you downloaded.
    2. Double-click on the corresponding icon - in this example epson317802eu.exe.


    3. Click Run if you receive a Security Warning for the epsonxxxxeu.exe file (where xxxx represents the file ID number):



    4. If you receive a User Account Control (UAC) warning, check that the file name contains 'epson' then click Allow to continue.


    5. WinZip Self-Extractor will open. Click Setup to continue, and the file will unzip.


    6. The installation will then begin. Follow the on-screen instructions.
    7. Select the correct All-In-One model name (e.g. Epson Stylus DX4400) if prompted to do so.
    8. Do not restart the computer if prompted to do so. Untick the box beside I want to restart my computer now:

      Epson Scan Install finished


    9. Click Finish to close EPSON Scan Setup. Ignore the instruction to connect the scanner. Do not connect your All-In-One yet:

      Click on Finish


      • Power on and connect the product only when prompted to do so by the printer driver installation program. The printer driver installation is at a later stage.

    10. If the Program Compatibility Assistant appears, click This Program Installed Correctly:

      • If you encounter any problems installing EPSON Scan, search the Epson website for a solution. You can also find further information in your reference guide.

  10. Install the printer driver.



    1. Navigate to the location of the file you downloaded. Double-click on the icon for the file:


    2. Click Run if you receive a Security Warning for the epsonxxxxeu.exe file (where xxxx represents the file ID number):


    3. If you receive a User Account Control (UAC) message, check that the file name contains epson, and then choose Allow to continue:


    4. WinZip Self-Extractor will appear. Click Setup to continue and the file will unzip.


    5. The installation will then begin. Follow the on-screen instructions.
    6. Power on and connect your All-In-One when prompted to do so. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
    7. If the Program Compatibility Assistant appears at the end of the installation warning that "This program might not have installed correctly", click This Program Installed Correctly:


      • If you encounter any problems installing the printer driver, search the the technical support articles or Epson website for a solution. You can also find further information in your reference guide.

  11. Restart the computer. Your All-In-One should now be ready to use.

  12. Once restarted, you may wish test the installation by printing a document and opening Epson Scan from the Desktop, or via Start > All Programs menu.
