What is the Moverio BT-350?

BT-350 are smart glasses optimised for commercial application, and for Arts & Culture applications. The design has been developed based on professionals’ feedbacks from real projects developments with previous generation, to offer the best features for Arts & Culture / commercial solutions.

What are the differences between the BT-350 and BT-300?

BT-350 has been created for commercial application, and for Arts & Culture applications. The design has been developed based on professionals’ feedbacks from real projects developments with previous generation, to offer the best features for Arts & Culture / commercial solutions. The BT-350 is designed for professional solutions and does not have access to the Moverio Apps Market. Applications can be purchased from an Epson Certified Software Partner or custom built.

BT-300 is used as a personal device, and especially as a drone piloting accessory.

What are the differences between the BT-2000 and BT-350?

The BT-2000/2200 are a rugged smart headset optimised for work and remote assistance use cases in heavy industrial environments.

BT-350 has been created for commercial application, and for Arts & Culture applications. It is a business product as well but intended to be used in lighter environments and for use cases requiring a lightweight and compact device.

How do the transparent displays on the BT-350 work?

For most other display devices, images are displayed on the screen or the device itself.

Because the lenses on the BT-350 are transparent, digital content is overlaid and scenery behind the virtual screen can be viewed at the same time as digital content.

Can the BT-350 be used whether I'm sitting, standing, etc.?

Much like a pair of glasses, the BT-350 can be used whether you are sitting, standing, lying down etc.

Can the BT-350 be used anywhere?

It can basically be used anywhere. However, do not use it in an environment where operation cannot be guaranteed (such as in the bath or pool), or in a place where it is prohibited by law.

What is Si-OLED?

Si-OLED is a new silicone OLED display developed by EPSON that has high contrast, high resolution (720p), and good colour reproduction as features.

What is the size of images viewed with the BT-300?

The size of the Moverio BT-350 screen is 40 inches from a perspective of 2.5 meters away and up to 320 inches from a perspective of 20 meters.

Is the BT-350 portable? 

Yes, the BT-350 is compact and battery operated. Battery life is up to 6 hours in video mode.

What is the battery life of the Moverio BT-350?

The battery life is up to 6 hours in video mode but this can be reduced depending on the application and functions used.

How long does it take to fully charge the BT-350 battery?

To fully charge the battery takes around 5 hours.

Can the BT-350 be used while the battery is charging?

Yes. However if the battery is low, please charge it to a significant percentage before usage.

Can replacement batteries be used with the BT-350?

No. The BT-350 uses the built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery only.

How do you recharge the BT-350 battery?

The BT-300 is charged via the microUSB connection on the controller. It can be charged using the AC adapter provided or from a device that provides USB power e.g. a power bank or laptop.

The charging status is displayed via LED.

You can also use the optional accessory BT-350 Quint Controller Dock (220V: V12H882W03, 240V: V12H882W04) to charge your devices.

Can the battery pack be replaced?

The batteries cannot be replaced. Please recharge the batteries once they are depleted.

If the batteries become defective, contact Epson.

Does the BT-350 have a voice recognition function?

This function is not built-in, voice recognition is only supported when using additional applications.

Can the BT-350 display be shut down in an emergency?

The BT-350 can be shut down using the power button on the top of the controller or the display can be switched off quickly using Sleep Mode. To activate Sleep Mode, press the power button on the controller once. Press it again to re-activate the BT-300.

How much built-in memory does the BT-350 have?

16 GB. Approximately 10GB is available for user storage. In addition, a micro SD cards of 32 GB in included.

How much does the BT-300 weigh?

The headset weights approximately 119g (without shade and cables). The controller weighs approximately 129g

Can headphones be used with the BT-350?

Headphones with a 3.5 mm jack can be used. However, if the impedance of earphone is extremely high, the volume of BT-350 may be low (recommendation = 16~32Ω)

Can two headphone sets be connected to one controller?

No

Can polarised sunglasses be used with the BT-350?

Yes. However, it is not recommended. A dark shade for outdoor use in included with the BT-350.

Does the BT-350 require an eye position adjustment like competitive products?

No. The BT-300 optics are fixed but are designed to be suitable for almost all users.

Usage

Can I use the BT-350 as a cell phone?

It is not possible to use the BT-300 as a mobile phone.

Can I use Skype on the BT-350?

Skype cannot be used with the BT-350 because there is currently no corresponding application.

Can I use SMS on the BT-350?

There is no SMS application for the BT-350.

What kind of 3D content can I view using the BT-350?

You can view any 3D content that are in a side-by-side format.

Limitation

Does the BT-350 have any environmental restrictions regarding usage?

The BT-350 is guaranteed to work in temperatures of 5 to 35 ℃ (41 °F to 95 °F) and with a humidity of 20% to 80%. It cannot be used in environments outside these ranges.

The best storage temperature is between -10 °C and 60 °C (14 °F and 140 °F), with 10% to 90% humidity (unfrozen).

Is the BT-350 waterproof?

BT-350 is IPx2 rated for water resistance.

While wearing the BT-350, can you do other tasks?

While wearing the BT-350, users can see both the image being displayed and the things in their surrounding environment, due to the see-through functionality. So, other tasks can be performed.

However, great caution must be taken. Please refrain from using the BT-350 in a potentially dangerous or hazardous environment or situation.

Can you walk around while wearing the BT-350?

While wearing the BT-350, users can see both the image being displayed and the things in their surrounding environment, due to the see-through functionality.

So, they can walk around while using it. However, great caution must be taken. Please refrain from using the BT-350 in a potentially dangerous or hazardous environment or situation.

While wearing the BT-350, can you operate a motor vehicle?

No. It is prohibited for safety and visibility reasons.

Is there any health considerations while using the BT-350?

Always take periodic breaks when using this product. Long periods of use may result in eye fatigue.

If you feel fatigued or uncomfortable even after taking a break, stop using the product immediately.

Does the BT-350 generate heat?

Heat generation from the BT-350 is minimal; it is designed so that any part of the BT-350 that generates heat should not touch the human body directly. Please stop using the BT-350 if you feel it getting too hot in use.

Can the BT-350 be used at sports clubs and gyms?

Yes. However, great caution must be taken when using the BT-350 while exercising.

Can the BT-350 be used on an airplane?

Yes, but it must be used in accordance with all airline regulations.

Is there an age limitation for those who use the BT-350?

This product must not be used by children under the age of six as their eyesight is still developing.

If a child of seven years or older uses the product, make sure they are supervised at all times and that they do not wear the product for extended periods.

Pay close attention to the child's physical condition and make sure they are not suffering from eye strain.

Can the BT-350 be used by someone who wears glasses?

Yes. It is designed to accommodate glasses that are 147 mm or less in width.

Connection

How can the BT-350 be connected to the internet?

It can be connected via a smartphone, a wireless hotspot, a wireless home network or other devices with built-in Wi-Fi (IIEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac).

Can a mouse and keyboard be connected to the BT-350?

Yes. USB 2.0 and Bluetooth Smartready devices can be connected.

An OTG host cable is required.


Can equipment with a USB interface be connected to the BT-350?

The BT-350 can be connected to a USB 2.0 mouse and USB 2.0 keyboard and USB Video Class devices such as USB web cameras.

Can Bluetooth devices be connected to the BT-350?

Devices such as the smartphone headset, earphones, headphones, mouse, and keyboard can be connected using Bluetooth.

Can you mirror the display of an Android smartphone / tablet to the BT-350?

Yes, the BT-350 can display content from most smartphones and tablets using Wi-Fi Miracast.

Some devices may not be supported due to compatibility of features and interface.

Can the BT-350 be tethered to an iPhone or iPad?

The BT-350 can connect to the Internet via iPhones or iPads that support the Personal Hotspot function.

Can the BT-350 connect to external devices via HDMI or USB Type-C?

The BT-350 does not support HDMI or USB Type-C connection. If you want to connect via HDMI or USB Type-C, please use Moverio BT-35E.

How does the Miracast function of the BT-350 work?

The BT-350 receives images and audio transmitted from Miracast-enabled devices (smartphones, etc.) via the transmission function of Miracast. It then reproduces this data. The BT-350 can also transmit images and audio to TVs, etc. that have the Miracast function.

Can equipment with a Miracast interface be connected to the BT-350?

Devices equipped with a Miracast interface, such as Blu-ray players, DVRs, smartphones, tablets, TVs and PCs can be used with the BT-350.

Which smartphones and tablets have the Miracast function?

Miracast is supported on devices running Android 4.2 or later. Please confirm the smartphone and tablet specifications for more details.

How many devices can be connected to the BT-350 via a Miracast interface?

One

Can BT-350 transfer its image to another device?

BT-350 can transfer its image to another Miracast certified device that supports the reception (sync) function.

Display

Can images viewed through the BT-350 be enlarged?

The display area position cannot be physically moved.

Can you adjust the colour of an image viewed on the BT-350?

Neither the contrast nor the colour can be adjusted, but the brightness can be adjusted.

Is the dioptre scale of the BT-350 adjustable?

The dioptre scale is not adjustable. Please use together with glasses were the dioptre has been adjusted.

Can you view images or movies without connecting to the controller?

The BT-350 cannot be used without the controller.

Can the BT-350 be used in an environment with a lot of outside light?

A shade comes included with the BT-350 and installs at the front of the BT-350 display.

Is the lens surface scratch-resistant?

The BT-350 lens surface is hard coated. However, please note that it might be damaged by the excessive impact

What input method does the BT-350 use?

Users can use the track pad or cross-key & enter keys on the controller.

You can use Bluetooth Smart ready devices and USB devices (keyboard and mouse track pads, etc.) as an input method.

How do users input text into the BT-350?

Users can use the track pad or cross-key & enter key on the controller to input text.

You can also use Bluetooth Smart ready devices and the USB devices (keyboard and mouse track pad, etc.) is possible, and through voice recognition applications.

What is the functionality of BT-350 controller?

The main functions are as follows:

Camera

What can you do with the camera on the BT-350?

5 megapixel camera can be used for taking still images and HD video shooting and marker recognition for AR applications.

Why do you use a 5MP camera instead of a higher resolution one like on smartphones?

To keep the BT-350 size and weight the camera resolution is set to 5 megapixel.

Does the BT-350 camera have a zooming function?

No.

Does BT-350 camera have auto focus? What is the focus length?

No, the camera has a lens with fixed focus.

Application

Will Epson provide application software for the BT-350?

No, Moverio BT-350 is targeted at specific business applications and as such we do not include applications. Typically, customers will have a use case scenario and develop the relevant application or get the application from one of our Moverio Certified Developers : www.epson.eu/moverio-isv

How do you install application software on the BT-350?

Applications can be installed from a PC using MOVERIO Admin (Windows Application Software) through USB connection to the Quint Controller Dock.

Apps can also be installed by using APK files with MovFiler which is pre-installed on Moverio BT-350.

Applications can also be installed with the adb install command "adb install "

Can Moverio Apps Market software be used with the BT-350?

The BT-350 is designed for professional solutions and does not have access to the Moverio Apps Market. Applications can be purchased from an Epson Certified Software Partner or custom built.

Can Google Play software be used with the BT-350?

Google Play applications cannot be downloaded

Can Android smartphone applications be used on the BT-350?

Yes they can be side-loaded but operation and compatibility cannot be guaranteed.

What is AR and how can it be utilised and enjoyed?

AR (Augmented Reality) is when one views a digital image over an object that's actually in his/her environment.

For instance, you may view an AR digital guide about a painting you are looking at in a museum.

How does AR work with the BT-350?

A digital image is viewed overlapping an object that's actually seen in the surrounding environment.

Depending on the application, and whether you are using the camera or motion sensors to map the content, the digital image may or may not appear in a fixed location.

How is AR different using the BT-350 as compared to a smartphone?

On a smartphone, the digital image is overlaid to the camera image acquired and then displayed on the screen.

On the BT-350, the digital image is overlaid directly on the environment.

What AR markers can be utilized on the BT-350?

Depending on the AR application software, bar codes, QR codes, objects, images, etc. are analysed and used as markers.

Can I use apps using GPS function?

Yes. BT-350 has GPS function, so you can use apps requiring GPS.

How can I take screenshot?

Press the Power button and Volume Down key at the same time. The screenshot will be stored into the screenshot folder.

What is the purpose of the sensors on the BT-350?

The BT-350 has an image sensor, a gyroscopic sensor, an acceleration sensor, a compass, and a GPS.

The image sensor can be used to recognized what the user is looking at.

The gyroscope sensor, accelerometer sensor, and compass can be used to detect the movement of the user’s head or of the controller.

The compass sensor and GPS can be used to detect the user’s position.

Why does the BT-350 have Android 5.1? Why not support Android OS 6.x, 7.x or above?

There is no major difference, from a user perspective, between Android 5.1 and 6.x/7.x.

However, an upgrade may be considered to be offered if necessary in the future if required.

How will OS update be provided?

BT-350 system updates can be installed using the dedicated update tool available on our Developer website: https://tech.moverio.epson.com/en/bt-350/update_userguide/

How can I reset the Android Password?

There is no way to reset the password. It will require to contact an Epson Service Centre.

Does BT-350 have a specific OS for Developer and User?

No. The BT-350 does not have a dedicated OS for the developer in particular.

How can I install development environment into PC?

Are BT-200 apps compatible with BT-350?

Some of Apps may not work due to Android OS restriction or CPU compatibility.

What kind of sensors does the BT-350 have?

The BT-350 has an image sensor, a gyroscopic sensor, an acceleration sensor, a compass, and a GPS.

The image sensor can be used to recognized what the user is looking at.

The gyroscope sensor, accelerometer sensor, and compass can be used to detect the movement of the user’s head or of the controller.

What type of keys and buttons does the BT-300/BT-350 have?

Button Function
Power Turns the power on or off.
Truckpad Support Tap, Drag, Flick, Pinch out and Pinch in.
Cross-key (touch sensor) Selects items and scrolls the screen.
Enter key Selects or confirms items.
BACK key (touch sensor) Displays the previous screen
HOME key (touch sensor) Displays the Home screen.
History key (touch sensor) Displays recently used apps.
Switch key Changes the adjustment items for the volume keys to brightness or 2D/3D mode. Hold down to turn key lock on and off.
Volume keys Adjusts the volume. When you press the Switch key first, you can also adjust the brightness or 2D/3D mode.

What are the options compatible with the BT-350?

Quint Battery charger: charge and upload data onto up to 5 controllers at the same time thanks to a magnetic connection system. Up to 4 chargers can be connected together. There are 5 magnetic cases included in the Quint battery charger box.

Magnet case unit pack: complementary magnet case for the Quint Controller Dock

Controller case unit pack: water resistant pouch to hold the controller.

Shade unit pack: flip-up shade to be able to see clear and crisp image, even in bright outdoors environements. 3 units included in the pack.

Which are the recommended use cases for BT-350?

Commercial applications, and especially arts & culture ones, like: museum and heritage sites, operas and theaters, guided tours and sightseeing, performance venues and theme parks.

The device can be also suited for remote assistance and for some healthcare applications.

Can I use BT-350 for industrial applications?

BT-350 is optimised for commercial applications.

Tip:

Moverio Pro series: BT-2000 or BT-2200 are Epson's range of smart headsets created to fit the industrial market.


Are there any additional functions that can be installed or programmed into the BT-350?

Yes, To prevent user operation: key lock function and track pad lock.

To expand the usage of the track pad input, camera LED and controller LED switch

Are there any other services to make the usage easier?

Quint Controller Dock option: charge and upload data onto up to 5 controllers at the same time thanks to a magnetic connection system. Up to 4 chargers can be connected together. There are 5 magnetic cases included in the Quint Controller Dock option.
