Wireless Networking: How to setup a wireless printer using the Wi-Fi Setup Wizard

Note:

If the network you are connecting to either:

  • Is a Mesh Wi-Fi network, or
  • Has Wi-Fi range extenders

Before starting the Wi-Fi setup move the printer to the same location as the main router or broadband hub.

What is a Mesh Wi-Fi Network?

Mesh Wi-Fi or Whole Home Wi-Fi systems consists of a main router that connects directly to your modem, and a series of satellite modules, or nodes, places around your house for full Wi-Fi coverage.

What is a Wi-Fi Extender?

A Wi-Fi range extender, sometimes called a range expander, is a type of wireless repeater used to expand the reach of a wireless LAN. The device is situated in between a base router and a client that is not close enough to receive a strong Wi-Fi signal.

The Wi-Fi Set-Up Wizard is used to create a connection between devices and a router or access point. It does this by guiding you through selecting the SSID and entering the password for your network.

  1. Enter the Wi-Fi Setup menu by following one of the methods below depending on your printer. If necessary press the button to return to the home screen.

  2. Method 1 Select WI-FI Setup
    Method 2 Use the or buttons to select WI-FI Setup and click the OK button
    Method 3 Use the or buttons to select WI-FI Setup and click the OK button
    Method 4 Tap at the top right corner of the LCD screen, then tap Wi-Fi Setup

  3. Select Wi-Fi Setup Wizard.

  4. Select your SSID (Name of your Wi-Fi network) from the list.
    Tip:

    The SSID list is sorted by signal strength so the closest wireless network should be at the top of the list


  5. Enter the password for your SSID using the printer's control panel. Expand the section below for help entering the password.

    Panel Type A

    ButtonAction
    / Enters letters or numbers.
    Changes to upper case, lower case, or symbols.
    Moves the cursor to the right.
    Deletes a character to the left of the cursor (Backspace).

    Panel Type B

    ButtonAction
    Changes to upper case, lower case, or symbols.
    Moves the cursor to the left or right.
    Deletes a character to the left of the cursor (Backspace).
    Enters a space.
    Finishes entering characters on the virtual keyboard.

    Panel Type C

    ButtonAction
    / Enters letters or numbers.
    Changes to upper case, lower case, or symbols.
    Moves the cursor to the right.
    Deletes a character to the left of the cursor (Backspace).
    Note:

    The password is case sensitive. Your password may contain uppercase and lowercase letters as well as numbers.


  7. If a Confirm Settings screen is displayed on the printer, follow the on-screen instructions.
  8. Depending on the printer model, network connection will start without displaying a confirm settings screen.
  9. When a Setup Complete message is displayed, Wi-Fi setup is finished.
