How to uninstall a Printer in Windows

Windows 10

  1. Start with the printer powered on and connected to the computer.
  2. Open the Devices and Printers folder. Check for and cancel any queued documents for all installed Epson printers. For help with this step see How to cancel print jobs in Windows.

  3. Power off the printer and disconnect the data cable.
  4. Click in the Search bar in the bottom left of the screen.

  5. Type Programs and Features in the Search bar and press Enter.

  6. Select the Printer Uninstall item listed for your model, e.g. EPSON XP-820 Series Printer Uninstall and click Uninstall/Change.

  7. Note:

    If you have more than one icon for your Epson printer model(s), repeat this procedure for any duplicate drivers.

  8. Click on your printer and click OK to uninstall.

  9. Note:

    Click Continue if you receive a Windows permission request to "Uninstall or change an application".

  10. Click Yes when prompted to confirm that you want to delete the selected printer:

  11. You will then see confirmation that the printer has been deleted and another printer has been set up as a default. If there is no other printer installed this will usually be the 'Microsoft XPS Document Writer'.

  12. You will then see confirmation that the uninstall is complete. Click OK.

  13. Make sure that your printer is still powered off and disconnected from the computer and restart the computer.
  14. Once the computer has restarted, the uninstall process is complete.
    • If you need to reinstall the printer driver, do so using either the original CD-ROM or the latest and recommended drivers from the Epson Support website.

Windows 8

  1. Start with the printer powered on and connected to the computer.
  2. Open the Devices and Printers folder. Check for and cancel any queued documents for all installed Epson printers. For help with this step see How to cancel print jobs in Windows.

    Note:

    If you have more than one icon for your Epson printer model(s), repeat this procedure for any duplicate drivers.

  3. Power off the printer and disconnect the data cable.
  4. To uninstall the printer driver move the mouse cursor to the bottom or top-right of the screen and click the Search icon (highlighted below) from the menu that appears.

  5. Type uninstall in the Search box and select the EPSON Printer Software Uninstall.

    • Alternatively you can also uninstall the printer by going to Control Panel, Programs and Features. Select the Printer Uninstall item listed for your model, e.g. EPSON WF-2520 Series Printer Uninstall and click Uninstall/Change.

    • Click on your printer and click OK to uninstall.

    Note:

    Click Continue if you receive a Windows permission request to "Uninstall or change an application".

  6. Click Yes when prompted to confirm that you want to delete the selected printer:

  7. You will then see confirmation that the printer has been deleted and another printer has been set up as a default. If there is no other printer installed this will usually be the 'Microsoft XPS Document Writer'.

  9. Make sure that your printer is still powered off and disconnected from the computer. Next, restart your computer by moving the mouse cursor to the bottom or top-right of the screen and clicking Settings. Click Power and then Restart.
  10. Once the computer has restarted, the uninstall process is complete.

Windows 7

  1. Start with the printer powered on and connected to the computer.
  2. Open the Devices and Printers folder. Check for and cancel any queued documents for all installed Epson printers. For help with this step see How to check the driver and print queue status in Windows 7.

    Note:

    If you have more than one icon for your Epson printer model(s), repeat this procedure for any duplicate drivers.

  3. Power off the printer and disconnect the data cable.
  4. To uninstall the printer driver click the Start icon usually located at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, and then select Epson Printer Software Uninstall.

    • Alternatively you can also uninstall the printer by going to Control Panel, Programs and Features. Select EPSON Printer Software and click Uninstall/Change.

    • Click on your printer and click OK to uninstall.

    Note:

    Click Continue if you receive a Windows permission request to "Uninstall or change an application".

  5. Click Yes when prompted to confirm that you want to delete the selected printer:

  6. You will then see the message below. Click Yes.

  7. Next, click Yes when asked if you wish to remove your personal settings.

  8. You will then see confirmation that the printer has been deleted and another printer has been set up as a default. If there is no other printer installed this will usually be the 'Microsoft XPS Document Writer'.

  9. You will then see confirmation that the uninstall is complete. Click OK.

  10. Make sure that your printer is still powered off and disconnected from the computer. Next, restart your computer by clicking Start, then the arrow button at the bottom of the menu, and then Shut Down.
  11. Once the computer has restarted, the uninstall process is complete.
    • If you need to reinstall the printer driver, do so using either the original CD-ROM (if the product was released after mid-2007) or the latest and recommended drivers from the Epson Support website.

Windows Vista

Notes Icon Note:

By uninstalling this software, it will not be possible to print or scan via the computer until you install the drivers again.

This article assumes that your All-In-One is operational (e.g. displaying no errors).

  1. Start with the All-In-One powered on and connected to the computer.
  2. Click Start > Control Panel. Double-click on the Printers icon.
  3. Double-click on the Epson printer icon to open the print queue. If documents are waiting in the print queue, click Printer then Cancel All Documents. Click Yes when prompted "Are you sure you want to cancel all documents for 'Epson xxxx'?".

    If you have more than one icon for your Epson printer model(s), repeat this procedure for any duplicate drivers.

  4. If you have had to cancel documents, restart the computer before moving on to the next step. To restart the computer, click Start, click the arrow then Restart.
  5. Power off the All-In-One and disconnect the USB cable.
  6. Click on the Start menu, then Control Panel. Then open Programs and Features.

  7. Locate and double-click on EPSON Printer Software. A size will not be stated, this is normal.

  8. Click Continue if you receive a Windows permission request to "Uninstall or change an application". The EPSON Printer Utility window will appear.
  9. Click on the Epson printer icon that corresponds to the printer you wish to uninstall and click OK.

  10. Answer Yes to all prompts to complete the uninstall process.
  11. Click OK to the "Uninstall complete" notification.
  12. Repeat this procedure until all Epson printer drivers are uninstalled.
  13. Once complete, remove EPSON Scan. (If you have an older All-In-One such as the CX3200/CX5200/CX5400 and installed software from the CD-ROM, look for EPSON TWAIN 5 instead.)
  14. Double-click on EPSON Scan in the list and follow the on-screen instructions to remove the software.

  15. When the installation has finished you may be prompted to restart the computer; untick the option to restart the computer and click Finish.

  16. Once complete, you may wish to remove any EPSON software that was bundled with your printer e.g. EPSON File Manager, EPSON Easy Photo Print.
  17. Once the uninstall process has finished, follow the instruction to restart the computer when prompted. If you are not prompted to restart, close Programs and Features and all windows back to the Desktop. Then restart the computer.

The Epson printer and scanner drivers for your All-In-One are now uninstalled. If you need to reinstall the drivers, do so using either the original CD-ROM (if the product was released after mid-2007) or the latest and recommended drivers from the Epson Support website.

Windows XP & 2000

Notes Icon Note:

By uninstalling this software, it will not be possible to print or scan via the computer until you install the drivers again.

This article assumes that your All-In-One is operational (e.g. displaying no errors).

  1. Start with the printer powered on and connected to the computer.
  2. Click Start > Control Panel. Open Printers and Faxes or Printers and Other Hardware. Double-click on the Epson printer icon to open the print queue.
  3. If documents are waiting in the print queue, click Printer then Cancel All Documents. Click Yes when prompted "Are you sure you want to cancel all documents for 'Epson Stylus xxxx'?".

    If you have more than one icon for your Epson printer model(s), repeat this procedure for any duplicate drivers.

  4. If you have had to cancel documents, restart the computer before moving on to the next step. To restart the computer, click Start > Shut Down, then click on Restart from the dialogue box that appears.
  5. Power off the All-In-One and disconnect the USB cable.
  6. Click on Start > Control Panel. Then open Add or Remove Programs.

  7. Locate and click on EPSON Printer Software. A size will not be stated, this is normal. Click on the Change/Remove button.

  8. The EPSON Printer Utility window appears. Click on the Epson printer icon that corresponds to the printer you wish to uninstall and click OK.

  9. Answer Yes to all prompts to complete the uninstall process.

  10. Click OK to the "Uninstall complete" notification.

  11. Repeat this procedure until all Epson printer drivers are uninstalled.
  12. Once complete, locate EPSON Scan. Click on EPSON Scan in the list then click Change/Remove. If EPSON Scan is not listed, look for EPSON TWAIN 5 instead. If EPSON TWAIN 5 is listed, click on it in the list to highlight it then click on Change/Remove.

  13. Once the uninstall program has finished, follow the instruction to restart the computer when prompted. If you are not prompted to restart, close Add or Remove Programs and all windows back to the Desktop. Then restart the computer.

The Epson printer and scanner drivers for your All-In-One are now uninstalled. If you need to reinstall your All-In-One, do so using either the original CD-ROM or the latest drivers from the Epson Support website.
