What are the recommended printer driver settings for envelope printing from Microsoft Word?

RELATES TO:

  • Epson inkjet printers and All-In-Ones
  • Envelope printing
  • Microsoft Word

EXPLANATION:

A printed envelope is both more legible and professional looking than one that has been handwritten. In addition, it is easier and more affordable than buying mailing labels. Follow these steps to print on an envelope with an Epson inkjet printer.

Check the envelope size is supported

Epson printers support plain paper and a wide range of genuine Epson paper and special media. Before choosing an envelope to print on, you should determine what weight the printer can support and the supported paper types. The user's guide supplied with your Epson product lists the Epson paper types and envelope sizes suitable for use with your printer model (see the 'Product Information' or 'Paper Handling' sections). The user's guide is also available in your product's Online Support and Manuals section on the Epson Support website.

The most common supported sizes for an Epson inkjet printer are:

  • Envelope No 10 = 4⅛ x 9½ in.
  • Envelope DL = 110 x 220 mm.
  • Envelope C6 = 114 x 162 mm.
  • Envelope C4 = 229 x 324 mm (A3+ printers only).

If the size of envelope is not listed the you may be able to create a custom page size. See: How to create a custom paper size when the required option is not in the paper size list.

Caution:

Epson A4 printer models do not support C4/A4 size envelopes. The C4/A4 envelopes are too large for the width of the paper feed and may damage the paper feed mechanism.

Loading envelopes

It is very important to ensure the envelopes are loaded correctly. Incorrectly loaded envelopes can cause many printer feed related problems. If you are experiencing paper feed related issues when attempting to print envelopes see article Stylus Inkjets - Troubleshooting Paper Feed Problems.

Follow the steps below to load your envelopes:

Envelope loading for printers that feed from the top

Epson Stylus SX/DX/C/D Series

The illustrations in this section show the SX218 Series for general guidance. The loading method can be applied to similar style products.

  1. Open the paper support, slide out the extension, and then flip the feeder guard forward.

  2. Lower the output tray, slide out the extension, and then raise the stopper.

  3. Pinch and slide the edge guide.

  4. Load the envelopes short edge first. The flap needs to face down and to the left.

  5. Slide the edge guide up to the left edge of the envelopes, but not too tightly.

  6. Flip the feeder guard back.

    Notes Icon Note:

Some printers have a paper thickness lever for printing on envelopes. If your printer has a lever (such as C70, C80, DX4800), check that this is in the envelope icon envelope position. Please note, the paper thickness lever/envelope lever can be adjusted when using thicker or special media.

If your model of printer has a paper thickness lever it may be in a different position. Please check your user guide to find out where it is located.

    • The thickness of envelopes and their ability to fold vary widely. If the total thickness of the stack of envelopes exceeds 12 mm, press down on the envelopes to flatten them before loading.
    • If print quality declines when a stack of envelopes is loaded, load one envelope at a time.
    • Do not use envelopes that are curled or folded.
    • Flatten the envelope flaps before loading.
    • Flatten the leading edge of the envelope before loading.
    • Avoid using envelopes that are too thin, as they may curl during printing.
