My Microsoft Office 2013 applications crash when the ABBYY FineReader application is installed. What can I do?

ABBYY FineReader is supplied as additional software with some Epson All-In-One and scanner products and is manufactured by a third party company called ABBYY. If your Microsoft Office 2013 applications are crashing when opened and you have installed the ABBYY FineReader Sprint 9.0 software that was supplied with your Epson product, please see the following Microsoft support article for advice:
A newer version of the FineReader add-in can be installed, to do this you will need to uninstall the ABBYY FineReader application and re-install the latest version. Follow the instructions below to do this:
Confirm the version of FineReader currently installed
Open the Help menu and click About.
Confirm the Build number.
Example, Build 220.127.116.119; Part# xxxx
Download the update for ABBYY FineReader 9.0 Sprint
Open the Help menu and click Check for Updates Now.
Click Download update and save the file to a folder.
If an updated version of ABBYY FineReader 9.0 Sprint is not available, the below screen will displayed:
Open Control Panel and open Programs and Features.
Select ABBYY FineReader then click Uninstall.
Install the FineReader update
Install the ABBYY FineReader update previously downloaded.
If the Integration with Microsoft Office option is active and selected by default this indicates that the add-in is working. Ensure the option is selected before continuing.
If the Integration with Microsoft Office is not active this indicates that the add-in is not working. The Integration with Microsoft Office is dependant on the version of Microsoft Office and the Operating System being used.
