How to install an ICA driver and scan with Image Capture in Mac OS X

EXPLANATION:

Epson makes drivers available to download from the Support section of the Epson website. Some earlier products are not supported by a full Epson scanner driver in the latest versions of OS X. However, basic scanning is available using Image Capture application (ICA) which is already built into your Macintosh operating system.

How to install an ICA driver

The latest ICA Scanner Driver for this product is available only via Apple's Software Update. Here's how to get it:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • If you're using a USB or Ethernet* connection, connect the printer/scanner to your Mac and make sure it is powered on.

    • If you're using a wireless connection** and your printer is already connected to your router, make sure it is powered on.

    • If you're using a wireless connection and your printer is not connected to your router, you'll need to connect your printer to your router. Use your product's control panel to establish the Wi-Fi connection.

      * Not all products have an Ethernet port.
      ** Single function scanners will not work with ICA drivers over a wireless connection.
  2. Select the Apple menu and then select Software Update or App Store.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the available updates.
  4. Tip:

    Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9.x) and Yosemite (10.10.x) users.

Scanning with Image Capture

Image Capture application is preinstalled on your Macintosh computer and ready to use. To use it with an Epson scanner, do the following:

  1. Make sure the scanner or All-In-One is powered on and connected directly to your Mac via the USB cable.

  2. Open Finder, type in Image Capture and click on it to open the application.

  3. The scanner will now be displayed on the left under DEVICES. Click on the name of your Epson product and the below screen appears. Here you can change basic settings such as the scanning mode and the location you would like the scanned file to be saved in.

  4. When your document is ready to scan, click the Scan button to start the scanning process.


  5. If you require more options or want to make adjustments to your scanned image, click on the Show Details button and more advanced settings will be available e.g. Kind (Text, Color or Black & White photo), Resolution, Size, Format, and Image Correction (with an advanced 'Manual' option).


  6. Once the scan has finished your scanned image will be saved in the location selected.
