  • Issues that may occur once installed.
  • Mac OS X Lion (10.7.x)
  • Epson inkjet printers, All-In-Ones and scanners.

EXPLANATION:

Listed below are the known issues and the solutions for them in Mac OS X Lion (10.7.x). Refer to the issues listed below prior to product installation in case you encounter any of them when installing your Epson product.

Check product and OS compatibility

Before installing your product, please check the following article for an up-to-date support status for Epson products and bundled software: Epson and Mac OS X Lion (Mac OS 10.7.x)

Quick links

CD Installer

The Epson software installer crashes when you attempt to install the Epson device using the supplied CD-ROM

For Epson inkjet printers and All-In-Ones released in 2010 and earlier, the Epson Install Navi software installer may not run or may crash/become unresponsive when you attempt to install your product in Mac OS X Lion using the supplied Epson software CD-ROM.

The CD-ROM supplied with products are suitable for the operating systems supported at the time of the product's release; therefore, for new operating systems such as OS X Lion the software may not be compatible.

Solution:

Visit the following article for a full explanation and guidance on installing your product in Mac OS X Lion without using the Epson software CD-ROM:

Mac OS X Lion (OS 10.7.x): The Epson software installer crashes when you attempt to install the Epson device using the supplied CD-ROM

Printer driver settings

You cannot access the Epson printer driver dialog, e.g. 'Print Settings', or it doesn't work correctly in some applications (such as TextEdit and Preview)

For some products using driver version 6.x, the Epson printer driver dialog, e.g. 'Print Settings' and 'Colour Management' does not open and only Apple's 'Printer Features' is displayed.

This affects sandboxed applications only, such as TextEdit and Preview, which means that you may not experience this issue in all printing applications in OS X Lion.

Solution:

Please check back to this page regularly for an update on this issue. This affects driver version 6.x only. If a later version is available via Apple's Software Update or the Epson Support website (e.g. version 8.x or higher), please update to the latest driver.

Click on the links below for more information:

Non-standard paper size names are displayed in the Print or Page Setup dialog (example: A3+ size is "A3 Oversize")

For the products listed below, some paper size names are displayed incorrectly, for example, A3+ or Super A3/B size appears as ""A3 Oversize"" and 8 x 10 in size appears as ""8 x 10"". This is caused by the Mac OS displaying Apple's standard paper size names automatically instead of the standard Epson paper size names.

Affected models:

  • All inkjet models when using driver version 8.00-8.60 with the exception of those listed below (see 'Not affected' list).
  • These Large Format Printers: Stylus Pro 4900 / 7890 / 9890

Not affected (the printer software displays paper sizes correctly so an update is not required):

  • Business Inkjet B-300 / B-310N / B-500DN / B-510DN
  • Stylus S22 / SX125 / SX218 / SX420W / SX425W / SX525WD / SX620FW
  • Stylus Office B42WD / BX305F / BX305FW / BX320FW / BX525WD / BX625FWD / BX925FWD
  • Stylus Photo PX660 / PX720WD / PX820FWD / R2000 / R3000
  • Large Format Printers: Stylus Pro 3800 / 3880 / 4000 / 4400 / 4450 / 4800 / 4880 / 7400 / 7600 / 7700 / 7800 / 7880 / 7900 / 9400 / 9600 / 9700 / 9800 / 9880 / 9900 / 10600 / 11880

Solution:

Updated printer drivers will be released that are not affected by this issue.

Fax utility (PC-FAX)

All Inkjet Fax-enabled models: When accessing the Epson fax printer driver dialog from sandboxed applications such as TextEdit and Preview, the [Fax] button is greyed-out in the Recipient Settings/Fax Settings dialog

When accessing the Epson fax printer driver dialog from sandboxed applications such as TextEdit and Preview, the [Fax] button is greyed-out in the Recipient Settings/Fax Settings dialog. This means the fax job cannot be sent via the computer unless the 'Fax' button is available to click on. This issue can occur regardless of whether the communication method is via USB or network (Ethernet/wireless).

Affected models:

  • Stylus SX610FW / SX620FW
  • Stylus Office BX305F / BX305FW / BX310FN / BX320FW / BX610FW / BX625FWD / BX925FWD
  • Stylus Photo PX810FW / PX820FWD

Affected software: Sandboxed applications such as TextEdit and Preview. You may not experience this issue in all printing applications in OS X Lion.

Solution:

An update will be released by Apple to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, we recommend you open and close the Fax Settings driver dialog a couple of times until the 'Fax' button is available. Otherwise, please await further information and update to latest version.

All Inkjet Fax-enabled models: When attempting to add an address to the PC-FAX Utility, while the icons of list of phone numbers that appear in the phone book printer management Utility, the Utility crashes when you click the icon column

When accessing the Epson FAX printer driver dialog, if you wish to add an address/number to the phonebook and click on the registration number of the column area, the PC-FAX Utility crashes. This issue affects version 1.20 of the Epson PC-FAX Utility and can occur regardless of whether the communication method is via USB or network (Ethernet/wireless). The Epson PC-FAX utility does not crash if you do not select the Entry Number area.

Solution:

As a temporary workaround, we recommend you continue to use the Epson FAX driver but do not select the Entry Number area. You should be able to send faxes and the utility should not crash.

To resolve this issue, Epson will release 1.30 of Epson Fax Utility via the Epson website and an updated printer driver will be released via Apple's Software Update utility.

Software Download method
Epson FAX Utility v.1.30 Epson website (www.epson-europe.com), under 'Network Utilities' in the Support > Drivers & Software section for your product.
Printer driver Apple Software Update (as part of the Epson Printer Drivers Update)

When available, download and install the latest software for your product, and then add the latest drivers to Print & Fax. Note: You may be prompted to uninstall the current version of Epson Fax Utility before installing the latest version.

See the following article to correctly add the updated printer driver to your Macintosh system:

When accessing the telephone directory file in the Fax utility, files not associated with the Fax utility are displayed (greyed-out)

Files with file extensions not associated with the Fax utility are displayed in the directory window.

Affects:

  • Epson FAX Utility
  • All fax-enabled models (Stylus SX600FW / SX610FW / SX620FW / Stylus Office BX300F / BX305F / BX305FW / BX310FN / BX320FW / BX600FW / BX610FW / BX625FWD / BX925FWD / Stylus Photo PX800FW / PX810FW / PX820FWD)

Solution:

Please continue to use the Fax Utility and Epson FAX driver as normal. The greyed-out files displayed in the file browse dialog are not compatible and are unavailable to select for use with the PC-FAX utility.

Network software and installation

When EpsonNet Config is started, an on-screen message is displayed by the Mac OS to confirm the download and installation of JAVA run time

Affected models:

  • All network-enabled products (Ethernet/Wi-Fi)
  • EpsonNet Config Ver.3.x

This message is displayed because JAVA run time is necessary for EpsonNet Config Ver.3 to operate. JAVA run time is not included with OS X Lion by default; therefore, please install JAVA run time to use the software.

Bundled software

Information on the issues listed below is available in the following article: Epson and OS X Lion (Mac OS 10.7.x): Software support information

  • ColorBase for SpectroProofer: The application fails to save the calibration file

  • LFP Remote Panel will not open

  • Installation of the ICC Profile (Adobe) package fails

  • Newsoft Presto! PageManger 8 displays a "PPC not supported" message after installation and some option buttons are not displayed correctly

  • Newsoft Presto! BizCard 5.01 cannot be launched and displays the message "PPC is not supported"

  • Epson Event Manager may crash when attempting to use the network push-scan feature from the All-In-One's LCD control panel

  • SilverFast is unable to install, launch or work in Mac OS X Lion

  • Monaco EZ Color is unable to install, launch or work in Mac OS X Lion

Scanner drivers

Some Epson scanner drivers will not install in OS X Lion

Epson scanner models released prior to 2004 use version 2.77 of Epson Scan. This version will not install or work because it is a PowerPC driver, which is not supported in OS X Lion as Apple have not provided support for Rosetta.

You may receive an on-screen error message if you try to install software from the Epson software CD-ROM or install v.2.77 of Epson Scan from the website in OS X Lion.

Affected models:

  • Perfection 1200 / 1240 / 1250 / 1260 / 1270 / 1640 / 1650 / 1660 / 1670
  • Perfection 2400 / 2450 / 3170 / 3200 / 610 / 640

Note:

Macintosh operating systems released up until 2004 supported drivers and applications designed for Macintosh systems with PowerPC processors. Since the release of Intel-based Macintosh systems, starting with Tiger (OS 10.4.x Intel) support has gradually moved away from this older PowerPC build towards the newer Universal driver support. Universal drivers can run natively on an Intel-based Mac OS (such as OS X Lion), offering optimal performance. The inclusion of Apple's Rosetta in OS X Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard allowed users to continue using PowerPC drivers and software. However, as Rosetta support is not included in OS X Lion, PowerPC drivers and software are no longer supported.

Solution:

Please check back to this page regularly for an update. Some scanning functionality will be available using Apple's (ICA) Image Capture Application in OS X Lion.
