What is the difference between plastic and fabric ribbons for Dot Matrix printers?
Dot Matrix printers
Two types of ribbon are available for Epson dot matrix printers: plastic and fabric. Each has their own benefits and the ribbon's suitability depends on particular print work you wish to perform.
A plastic ribbon will give you sharper crisper print as it is made from a more smooth plastic continuous surface. However, these ribbons are designed for single use and tend to be slightly more expensive.
A fabric ribbons is longer lasting as the ribbon can be run past the print head more than once before running out of ink. Due to the type of material used, the printed text is not as crisp as when a plastic ribbon is used.
