If you are experiencing dark colours following an upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6, or colour inconsistencies when printing from Adobe Photoshop CS4 in Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6, the following advice may help.
Apple has increased the default Gamma setting to 2.2 in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, from 1.8 in previous versions of the operating system. For more information see the following Apple support article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3712.
As a result, if your colours are too dark following an upgrade to Snow Leopard, we recommend checking the Gamma setting in the printer driver. The Gamma value can be changed in the Advanced Color Settings section of the driver.
Please also note that the default Gamma value in Epson drivers is 2.2 for the latest large format printers (e.g. x700/x880/x900), but 1.8 for older models. There may therefore be visible differences when comparing the same image produced by older and newer models.
You may encounter issues with inconsistent colours printing from Adobe Photoshop CS4 with No Colour Management selected, for example when printing calibration charts to create a profile.
This is an issue with the application and not with the Epson drivers, and at the time of writing there is no official fix. We therefore recommend following the third-party workaround provided in the article linked below (please note that Epson is not responsible for the content of this website):
http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/solving.shtml ("Solving Recent Profiling Issues With Apple Computers, Epson Printers and Photoshop", written by Mark Dubovoy).
The workaround can be summarised as follows:
This process should produce the expected results.
Finally, in the event of any printing issues we recommend ensuring you've installed the latest system build updates provided by Apple via the Software Update feature. Current or future updates may contain relevant patches. For more information on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard updates please see the Apple support website at http://www.apple.com/support/snowleopard/.
