EXPLANATION:

To share the memory card slot on a network, set File Sharing Setup to Enable on the printer's control panel.

Notes Icon Note:

This feature is not available for all printers or may not be enabled.

Memory Card Access Settings

To make the memory card writable, set the Share mode to Read/Write. For details, see the instructions below.

This section describes how to use the control panel to change the way that computers on the network can access the printer's memory card slots.

Notes Icon Note:

If you connected the printer to a computer via a USB cable, other computers on the network cannot access the printer's memory card.

  1. Verify that the printer is turned on.

    Notes Icon Note:

Do not turn off the power or unplug the printer while making settings on the control panel. Doing so may cause the printer to malfunction. Changing the network settings while accessing the memory card may interrupt access to the memory card and could cause data loss.

  2. Enter the Setup mode.

  3. Select Network Settings.

  4. Select File Sharing Setup.

  5. Select Enable.

    Notes Icon Note:

When Enable is selected as the file sharing setting, USB-connected computers cannot access the memory card.

  6. If a warning message screen appears, check the message and then select Yes.

Checking the printer's network name (host name)

Confirm the printer's network name (host name) to share the printer and card slot on a network. You can do this via the printer's LCD panel:

  1. Make sure the printer is powered on.

  2. Enter the Setup mode.

  3. Select Network Settings.

  4. Select Confirm Settings and press OK.

  5. Press the Down button to view more information. Make a note of the printer name displayed here, as you will require it later.

Connecting the network card slot

The next step is to map the printer's memory card slot as network drive.

  1. Click on the Finder menu and select Go then Connect to Server from the menu.

  2. Enter the following in Server Address:

cifs://xxxxxxx/MEMORYCARD (where 'xxxxxxx' is the printer name on the network).

  3. Click Connect.

    Notes Icon Note:

If a user name and password are required, enter the user name and password set for the computer.

Mac OS X 10.3/10.4: A network drive icon for the connected memory card appears on the desktop.

Mac OS X 10.5/10.6/10.7: The printer name appears and the MEMORYCARD folder is displayed under SHARED on the Sidebar.

    Notes Icon Note:

For Mac OS X 10.5/10.6/10.7, the location where MEMORYCARD is displayed varies according to the Finder settings. MEMORYCARD appears at the location set for Connected servers from Finder > Preferences.

    Notes Icon Note:
    • When Enable is selected as the file sharing setting, USB-connected computers cannot access the memory card.

    • When Read Only is selected and data is deleted using the computer, the data appears deleted but is not actually deleted. (If you refresh the directory, the icon reappears.).
