The message "Rosetta must be installed" appears when I try to install my Epson driver(s) in Mac OS X 10.6.x Snow Leopard. What should I do?

RELATES TO:

  • Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
  • Epson scanners and printers
  • Message "Rosetta must be installed"

EXPLANATION:

You will need to install Rosetta as Apple Corp. have made this software an optional installation in Snow Leopard. Before continuing, you should first check how your product is supported in Snow Leopard.

Please check our support article 'Epson and Snow Leopard - Mac OS X 10.6'. The link is available in the Related Articles section at the top-right of this article. Follow the advice in the article, and if your product is listed with a 'compatible download' driver you should return to this article and follow the instructions below. You will then be able to install the driver either from your Epson product CD (if it contains a suitable driver) or the latest driver from the Epson website (dated October 2007 or later).

You can install Rosetta in Snow Leopard by doing one of the following:

Follow these instructions if your Macintosh is connected to the Internet:
  1. Click Install when you see a window that prompts you to install Rosetta. Rosetta is installed automatically.

  2. If you see the Epson menu, open the Epson pop-up menu and select Quit.

  3. Install the Epson drivers from the Epson software CD or download the software from the Drivers & Software page for your product.

Follow these instructions if your Macintosh is not connected to the Internet:
  1. Click OK when you see a window that prompts you to install Rosetta.

  2. If you see the Epson menu, open the Epson pop-up menu and select Quit.

  3. Insert the Apple OS X 10.6 DVD into your Macintosh.

  4. Open the Optional Installs folder.

  5. Double-click Optional Installs.mpkg.

  6. The Installer appears. Click Continue.

  7. Click Continue to the Software License Agreement.

  8. Check only the Rosetta box and click Continue.

  9. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the software.

If you see the prompt below, click Agree to continue:

  10. Click Close when you see the screen below.

  11. Install the Epson drivers from the Epson software CD or download the software from the Drivers & Software page for your product.

Note:

If you have an All-In-One and will download the drivers from the Drivers & Software page for your product then please make sure that you download the printer driver and Epson Scan. Epson Scan is required to use the scanning features of your product.
