  • When you start EPSON Print CD you receive the error message "The EPSON printer driver dealing with CD printing is not installed"
  • EPSON Print CD, EPSON EasyPrintModule

EXPLANATION:

This article explains what to do if you receive the error message "The EPSON printer driver dealing with CD printing is not installed" when you start EPSON Print CD in Mac OS X. The error may be due to one of the following issues:

  • EPSON EasyPrintModule is not installed on your system.

  • The printer driver is not installed on your system.

  • The printer driver is installed, but a Gutenprint driver (or Gimp-Print in 10.3.x) may have been added to the printer list instead of the Epson driver. As a result, your system is unable to detect or use the Epson printer driver.

  • Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6): An older version of the Epson printer driver is installed and the printer driver needs to be updated.

  • An old version of EPSON Print CD is installed.

Versions of EPSON Print CD that predate your OS may not run correctly on your system. Expand the section below for more information.

The table below indicates which versions of EPSON Print CD are supported in Mac OS X:

If you are using a version shown as "Not supported", you can continue to follow the troubleshooting instructions in this article. However, if troubleshooting does not resolve the error we recommend installing the latest version of EPSON Print CD. The latest version of Print CD is available to download from your local Epson Support website; alternatively, contact your local Epson support team for information on obtaining a copy.

To troubleshoot the issue, please follow the advice in the sections below in order.

EPSON EasyPrintModule

EPSON EasyPrintModule collects data from any EPSON printer driver installed on your system. This data is needed by applications like EPSON Creativity Suite or EPSON Print CD to show the correct printing options for your printer(s).

If EPSON EasyPrintModule is not installed then this data cannot be collected. As a result, the application cannot find the printer driver and reports that it is not installed on the system.

Ensure that the following software is installed:

  • The EPSON printer driver.
  • The latest version of EPSON EasyPrintModule.

After installing EPSON EasyPrintModule, restart your computer before attempting to open EPSON Print CD again.

Notes Icon Note:
  • You can download EPSON EasyPrintModule from here.

  • See the Related Articles section for help with downloading and installing printer software.

Check that the Epson printer driver is in the printer list, and add it if required

If you still receive the error after the computer has restarted, check that the Epson printer driver is in the printer list. Also, check the version of the printer driver as an updated version may be available.

  1. Open Apple menu > System Preferences > Print & Fax / Print & Scan.

  2. Check the list for your printer and click on the printer name to highlight it.

  3. Check the driver information. Under 'Kind' the printer name should be listed, e.g. 'Epson Stylus xxxx' (where 'xxxx' is your printer model name) with a version in brackets.

The correct EPSON driver should not have the name of another printer nor feature 'Gutenprint' or 'Gimp-Print' in the version or under Kind.

The EPSON driver icon should be at an angle, like this: The icon for a non-Epson driver is flat like the OS X default: and other examples:

    • If the correct driver has been added, move to step 4. However, for Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) users:
    • If the correct EPSON driver has not been added, click on the printer entry to highlight it then click on Delete. Click on Add or to open the printer browser.

      10.3 & 10.4 (Power PC only):

      • For 10.4, first click on More Printers and another window appears - 10.3 users will not have this option. Click on the pull-down menu at the top of the dialogue and select the option that represents the way that your Mac connects to the printer e.g. EPSON USB, EPSON FireWire, or for network printers either EPSON AppleTalk or EPSON TCP/IP.

      10.4 (Intel), 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8:

      • USB printers: Click on the printer name in the main browser window. It appears in the Name field. Below this, the Print Using field should display a driver matching the printer name. It should not have the name of a different printer, nor contain 'Gutenprint' in the name. If this is correct, select Add.

      • FireWire or network printers: Click on More Printers then, in the window that opens, click on the pull-down menu at the top and select the option that represents the way that your Mac connects to the printer, e.g. EPSON FireWire, or for network printers either EPSON AppleTalk or EPSON TCP/IP.

      Note:

If 'Add' is not available at first, allow the printer browser to search for new drivers. You may need to close and reopen it.

If it is still not available, do not select a printer from the list of EPSON printers in the browser. This list contains third-party Gutenprint drivers and may list Epson inbox drivers for different EPSON printers.

Instead, keep the Printer Browser active with the printer highlighted. Leave the Mac for 10 minutes and do not run any other programs. After this time, 'Add' should be available. Failing this, restart the Mac and if the printer has not been added to Print & Fax automatically, attempt to add it again.

  4. Open EPSON Print CD again and, if you no longer receive the error, create and print your design.

If still receiving the error, update the printer information in EPSON Print CD

If you receive the same error message, the printer information has not been updated in EPSON Print CD. Click on File > Update Printer Information. This update process may take a few minutes to complete. Once the printer information has updated, attempt to print again.

If you continue to receive the message, delete the EPC Preferences and EPC PrinterCache_00_en_en_US files from the Mac OS X hard drive (located in /User/Library/Preferences). Restart the Mac and then open EPSON Print CD again.

Uninstall and reinstall EPSON Print CD

Should this fail, we recommend uninstalling and reinstalling Epson Print CD. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive.

    Note:

If the CD-ROM drive does not open automatically, double-click the CD-ROM icon on your desktop.

  2. Double-click the language folder the software is installed in (e.g. English, Italian, or Spanish) in the EPSON window, and then double-click the EPSON Print CD folder. Next double-click the OS X Installer icon.

  3. Click Accept. The installer dialog box appears.

  4. Select Uninstall from the pull-down menu at the top left, and then click Uninstall.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions, and once uninstalled restart the computer.

  6. Once restarted, reinstall EPSON Print CD and restart the Mac when the installation is complete. Then open EPSON Print CD again.

After following the steps above you should now be able to use the software. If not, ensure that you are running a supported version of EPSON Print CD. If you still receive errors we recommend repairing permissions for the Mac OS X volume on which EPSON Print CD is installed. To do this, run Disk Utility which is available in /Applications/Utilities.
