EXPLANATION:

This article explains any problems you may encounter when installing an Epson Inkjet printer or Scanner on Mac OSX 10.5 and lists any known issues and the solutions for them.

Epson & Mac OSX 10.5 (Leopard)

Before installing your product, please check the Drivers & Software section on our support site for any updated drivers. The product support site can be found here.

There are some known issues for Inkjet printers and Scanners, please refer to these prior to product installation:

Inkjet Printers and All-In-Ones

Please check the support section for your product to see if an updated driver is available. If a driver exists in the support section that has been released after September 2007, download and install it rather than using the default driver on the Mac OS X Leopard CD/DVD. The release date is mentioned directly below the driver:

Problem: The printer driver freezes if an older version of  'OKAO updater' or 'EPSON Easy Print Module' is installed; it may prevent the user from opening the print window on the following models:

Solution: Please use printer driver version 6.10 or higher to remedy this problem (available in your product's Download section).

Scanners and All-In-Ones

Please note that for all issues mentioned below, updates are being released to fix these problems. Check the Drivers & Software section for the latest available drivers.

Problem: Image Capture and Push Button scanning (V200 model only) do not work on Power PC Macs.

Solution: Driver Update.

Problem: After launching the ImageCapture application once, it fails to subsequently relaunch and the Scan button on the scanner stops working.

Solution: Disconnect, and then reconnect the USB/FireWire Cable. Check for a driver update.

Problem: EPSON Scan freezes if launched when the scanner is in standby mode (Perfection V200 scanner only).

Solution: Driver Update.

Problem: When using EPSON Scan from within an application, a crash or freeze may occur. Most notably:

• When using the Scan Assistant feature within EPSON Creativity Suite
  
• Closing EPSON Scan within Adobe Photoshop CS3
  
• Failure to function when using Abbyy FineReader

Solution: Driver Update.

Problem: On Intel Macs, when scanning with Image Capture in 16-bit mode, 'white noise' may appear in the image (see an example below):

Solution: Don't scan in 16-bit mode with Image Capture, or use another application such as EPSON Scan or any application known to use the 'TWAIN' user interface such as Adobe Photoshop.
