Printed fabrics have dominated the collections shown in this year’s London, Paris, Milan and New York fashion weeks. Collections like Marni, Pucci and Gucci all showed ranges of sumptuous printed designs that are not only fit for the catwalk, but changing the way we dress on the high street.

Like in 2013, this year’s leading collections are being brought to life by daring and colourful printed textiles. International high-street brands like Zara, H&M, Desigual, BCBG and Mango are also cashing in on the trend, offering everything from silk shirts to summer dresses and winter scarves in colourful prints.

As someone so closely linked to textile printing (and whose wife and daughter demand a household interest in clothes and fashion), it’s exciting for me to think that Epson has played a part in driving this recent fashion trend. Epson has opened up incredible opportunities for designers to work with printed textiles by creating precision digital textile printers in large and medium format that have revolutionised the industry.

Last year, we had the opportunity to hear first-hand from Japanese fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto on how Epson has influenced his designs during his ‘Fashion in Motion’ exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum in central London. Here’s a video of what he had to say:

The next time I pick out a new scarf for my wife (and to be fair the shock on her face if I did would be impressive!) I can do so with some confidence that I’ve inadvertently influenced and enabled my own choice in fabric and print.
