Epson SurePress Digital Label Press Sales Hit One Hundred Worldwide

30th May 2014 – Epson today announced that sales of its SurePress inkjet digital label press had reached one hundred worldwide. The hundredth unit was installed by Kanae Co., Ltd., based in Nagano, Japan.

Epson launched the SurePress L-4033A in October 2010, steadily raising the product’s performance on the basis of ongoing discussions with customers, and building up a strong sales and service network worldwide. In December 2012, Epson increased sales further after launching the SurePress L-4033AW with white ink. Sales have steadily accumulated and the 100 units sold to date have contributed to Epson’s current market share of approximately 10%.*

SurePress achieves magnificent colour reproduction on a wide variety of label substrates thanks to Epson’s original Micro Piezo inkjet technology and original soluble inks. It has also been praised by customers for its usability, easy maintenance and its stable printing quality. As many as 20% of SurePress customers have purchased two or more units.

“We are committed to contributing to the profitability of our customers’ businesses,” said Eisuke Shimoyama, general manager responsible for sales and marketing of industrial solutions at Epson. “We are planning to launch a new model that includes a print head using our cutting-edge PrecisionCore technology. Going forward, our aim is to expand our market share and lead the digitalization of the printing industry.”

Epson’s SurePress has received high praise from customers, including the following:

Paul Dunne, Label Tec, UK

“The results we are getting are superb, we can take print from the Epson SurePress and, using our foil and flexo capabilities, produce a highly embellished label. Designs with fine gradations which are a struggle to print flexo can be printed effortlessly on the Epson, no concessions on customers’ designs are necessary. Furthermore, using the variable data option, we can also serialise and personalise the labels. As a result, we can now produce a product that will enable us to grow our business. All in all the press is a perfect fit for Label Tec.”

Andrew Miller, Superfast Labels, UK

“Investing in the SurePress L-4033 has added high-quality, affordable digital print to Superfast’s capabilities and the ability to print on textured substrates has opened-up new commercial opportunities with small-volume artisanal food and drink producers looking for a quality, bespoke-looking result. The freedom to print on standard labelling substrates, without resorting to pre-treatments or special coatings, and the ability to get jobs on press, printed and finished quickly with no waste is great. It means we can print jobs on demand for customers, in the exact quantity they want at any time and with the confidence that the colour will be perfect and consistent. As a result we don’t need to keep stocks of labels on site for customers which has freed up valuable space.”
