Renovate to innovate

Hotel renovation and digital printing – a perfect partnership

Hotels know that they have to keep their interiors fresh and smart if they want to maintain maximum occupancy, retain customer loyalty and stay ahead of the competition. There is nothing worse than staying in a hotel when the decor is tired and out of date and you certainly won’t consider returning.

Hotel renovation cycles used to be every  five to seven years, but today, with competition for guests increasing and review sites such as TripAdvisor providing critical reviews, many hotels have reduced this to every three years.

Hotels that renovate regularly know that it can have a major effect on performance and help make them money.  In 1998, Claridges in London  increased turnover by 38% and profitability by 90% following a complete refurbishment and the planned £90m makeover of Grosvenor House on Park Lane in London is predicted to increase its value by 80% (ref: www.building.co.uk). OK, I know this is at the very top of the league – but it holds true for any hotel.

We have also seen the rise of boutique and themed hotels over the last few years where creative and unique spaces are attracting a great deal of interest – and bookings.  Whether hotels are renovating to spruce up their interiors or reinventing their spaces to keep pace with changing consumer trends – digital printing can play a powerful and very affordable role.

Inkjet printing today enables architects and interior designers to create beautiful bespoke environments to order. Wall coverings, curtains, cushions, lampshades, soft furnishings, furniture and panels can all be produced on a variety of durable substrates that emulate natural materials very quickly, in the precise quantity needed, and it won’t break the bank.

At the recent Heimtextil (home textiles) show in Frankfurt, we showed how digital printing can be used to produce all these products and the reaction from designers, architects and soft furnishing manufacturers shows that there is a fast-growing demand for digital and bespoke décor products.

How long until I can order my personalised design when I book a room I wonder!
