scanning for
scrapbooking

Scrapbooking your photographic memories is a lot of fun, allowing you to be creative and personal with your design. There is also an important side to scrapbooking, that is recording events and moments in your families history so that they can be enjoyed for many years to come.

A photo printer such as the Epson PictureMate offers longevity of up to 100 years* but how can you restore an old photograph that has already faded over time? Many of us own a collection of photos that have been sitting in an old shoe box or have been exposed to light and other harmful environmental conditions. These images can be restored to their former glory with the restoration software offered with Epson scanners.

A scrapbook containing restored photos can make a great gift, for a wedding anniversary, birthday present or to document the life of someone special.

photograph restoration
Use the restoration software available within all scanners in the Epson range. You can restore old faded images back to new, remove dust marks on photos and turn cloudy shots into crisp clear masterpieces.

Simply scan your orginal photos and they will be restored autotmatically without the need for any other photo manipulation. Then print on your Epson photo printer and place into your scrapbook design.

You simply scan the photos with the “colour restoration” checkbox selected. You can also scan slides and enhance old faded black and white or sepia toned photos with this process.

Also in the Epson Perfection 4990 photo is DIGITAL ICE Photo Print Technology. It is designed to remove dust and lint, while also correcting scratches, cracks, rips, and creases found on the surface of most prints and film. That means if your photo is ripped or has an unsightly crease, don’t throw it away, the Epson Perfection 4870 Photo will ensure it is restored and will look like new in your scrapbook.

digitise your existing photos
Use an EPSON scanner to digitise your regular prints from the comfort of your own home. You can fix photographs you have previously been unable to display by correcting red-eye or dark shadows. Change the photo by adding or removing an item from the image that you feel spoils your photo, e.g. a lampost or someone in the background.

photo software
Colour restoration and dust removal are just the start, because EPSON Perfection scanners don’t just feature built-in software to bring out the best in your photos. They are bundled with ArcSoft PhotoImpression editing software, which gives you unlimited opportunities to edit, improve and adjust photos, put them into templates, add text and personalise your creations to your heart’s desire.

Perhaps you want multiple copies of your favourite picture for a scrapbook layout or you want to produce the same photo with different effects, e.g. in colour, black and white and sepia. By simply scanning the photo and into a software programme, you can create as many effects as your creativity allows.

photo handling
An Epson photo scanner can also scan pictures from the negative thanks to an built-in transparency unit and robust film holders. These enable a range of film formats to be scanned quickly and easily. Scanning directly from negative or positive film is useful for achieving the best results when printing enlargements.

There is a range of scanners to choose from, within the Epson range, depending on your budget, your specification requirements, whether you are a beginner or an advanced user, there is a model to meet your needs.

scanning 3D objects

You aren’t limited to scanning flat objects. Epson scanners will also scan 3D objects. You can create you own personal backgrounds and illustrations for your scrapbook. For example, you can scan a flower, jewellery or an item of clothing by simply placing it on the flatbed of your scanner to create a digital file (remember to protect the surface of your scanner with some an acetate if you are using sharp, oily or dusty objects). Print the digital file on your photo printer and add to your scrapbook to enhance your theme.
