Software tools and utilities
Configuration tools
Epson Internal and External Print Servers are supplied with software tools on a CD-ROM or embedded in the card. These tools are used for setting up the printing environment when a new printer is installed onto a network, or when a network is set up for the first time. They provide system administrators with easy control over printer configuration from a remote workstation or a machine on the LAN. The following tools are available with Epson print servers.
EpsonNet WinAssist is a Windows-based configuration application for administrators which allows you to configure the interface card for TCP/IP, NetBEUI, NetWare, AppleTalk, IPP, and SNMP. In particular, you can use EpsonNet WinAssist Easy Setup to easily configure the interface card for TCP/IP and NetBEUI.
EpsonNet MacAssist is a Macintosh-based configuration application for administrators that allows you to configure the interface card for TCP/IP and AppleTalk.
EpsonNet WebAssist is a web-based application that allows you to configure the interface card for TCP/IP, NetBEUI, NetWare, AppleTalk, IPP, and SNMP. You can start EpsonNet WebAssist from EpsonNet WinAssist or MacAssist, or by typing the IP address of the interface card for the URL in your browser.
EpsonNet WebManager is a web-based application that helps network administrators to easily control network devices.
EpsonNet Direct Print is a utility that enables TCP/IP printing for Windows Me/98/95/2000/NT 4.0. Windows 2000/NT 4.0 also support OS standard LPR printing.
EpsonNet Internet Print is a utility that supports printing across the Internet using Internet Printing Protocol for Windows 98/95/NT 4.0.
Epson Status Monitor 2 is a utility which comes with your printer driver and gives you information about your printer’s current status.
Printer Status Page is a set of customized web pages for Windows 2000 Internet Printing. It comes with your Windows 2000’s printer driver.
Management tools
WebManager is a web-based application software designed to manage Epson printers under a Windows environment (although it may be browsed via a Macintosh or a PC). Installed in a server, it runs all the time and allows network administrators to easily configure and monitor network printers. Network administrators rather than end users use it. It bears some resemblance to WinAssist but it implements a proactive rather than reactive approach to network printer management. Monitored items are paper feed type, remaining paper level, toner supplies, printer mode and options (duplex, paper cassette, mail bin, etc.). WebManager is best used for larger groups of users.
Status monitoring and client printing tool
Status Monitor is a software application designed to monitor local and network printers. It gives users information about current printer status, including the amount of remaining toner, etc. Also if a print error occurs, the Status Monitor provides the user with a message describing the error. Status Monitor can be accessed only from the printer driver. It is aimed at end-users. Status Monitor 3 (STM3) is embedded in Epson printer drivers.
Direct Print is a printing tool for smaller TCP/IP networks. Windows 98 and 95 do not support standard TCP/IP printing. Using the Direct Print utility, which comes with a bundled CD-ROM of EpsonNet interface card, it is possible to print in a TCP/IP environment even without a server in the network. This utility can browse both printers located in the same segment, and those located beyond a router.
