Epson INCREASES LASER RANGE WITH ENTRY-LEVEL PRINTER

Epson (UK) Ltd today announces the expansion of its range of laser printers to include an entry level 8ppm PDL (Page Description Language) printer. The EPL-5700 is priced at £399 (RRP ex. VAT) and is the ideal solution for personal and small workgroup use in the corporate environment as well as the SoHo market.

The EPL-5700 offers a true print resolution of 600 x 600dpi, which is enhanced with Epson's new MicroGray 1200 halftoning technology included within the Advanced Printer driver to give 1200dpi class printing. The EPL-5700 is the first Epson laser printer to include the Advanced Printer driver, which offers the MicroGray 1200 function resulting in crisp, clear definition on text documents and smooth gradation on graphical images. Further enhancements include the Watermark function, Document Rotation, Proportional Printing and Multiple Pages per Sheet, which together offer complete control over the printed document.

Andrew Semple, Product Manager for Business Products, said, "Over the last year we have seen our inkjet printers such as the Stylus Color 800 taking market share in the lower-end of the laser market. We decided that our low end laser printer offering should be an 8ppm model, picking up where our current inkjet printers stop in terms of ppm, and ensuring that there is a natural extension of Epson's business printer range. We've taken the time to develop the EPL-5700 - and given it a price that we feel is very competitive - so that Epson offers a lot more laser for your money."

The EPL-5700 is available in three configurations:

EPL-5700, Standard Configuration, designed as a low cost, personal laser solution.

EPL-5700EN, Network Configuration £599 (RRP Ex. VAT), has the addition of an Ethernet network interface as standard. This interface includes both 10base2 and 10BaseT connectors, and is compatible with Novell Netware.

EPL-5700PS, PostScript® Configuration £599 (RRP Ex. VAT), a PostScript® compatible printer with 8Mb of RAM. The optional interface slot remains available so that the customers can choose whether they require an Ethernet or LocalTalk interface.
