Epson® introduces PRINT Image Matching III for Improved Digital Images
Epson's new PRINT Image Matching III advanced technology provides users of digital cameras an easy way to consistently produce the best quality prints. Prints that accurately reflect the photographer's intent.
August 2004 –Epson is announcing its future strategy to release PRINT Image Matching III-compatible printers, allowing printing from cameras, video cameras and camera phones currently supporting PRINT Image Matching. PIM III products are expected to launch in Europe by the middle of 2005.
As digital cameras and camera-equipped mobile phones deliver increasing image quality and resolution, the desire to create attractive, faithful reproductions and prints of digital photographs, is also growing. To respond to this demand, Epson has developed PRINT Image Matching III, with improved colour-correction functionality.
Backward compatible with PRINT Image Matching and PRINT Image Matching II, PRINT Image Matching III enables the user to correct colour, contrast and saturation, resulting in more realistic photographic prints.
There is also new monochrome print command that enables black and white printing with rich gradations.
In 2001, Epson developed the introduction of PRINT Image Matching, a technology to help ensure faithful output of the colours captured by digital cameras. Many digital camera manufacturers agreed to support the new technology, and Epson succeeded in driving further expansion of the digital photography market. Over one hundred models of cameras equipped with PRINT Image Matching have arrived on the market, including digital still cameras and digital video cameras.
* The following manufacturers have agreed to support “PRINT Image Matching”:
Casio Computer Co., Ltd.; Konica Minolta Photo Imaging Corporation; Kyocera Corporation; Matsushita Electrical Industrial Co., Ltd.; NEC Corporation; Nikon Corporation; Olympus Corporation; PENTAX Corporation; Ricoh Company, Ltd.; Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd.; Sharp Corporation; Sony Corporation; Toshiba Corporation; and, Victor Company of Japan, Limited. Epson® wins prestigious EISA Award for its market leading scanner
15 August 2004 - Epson announced today that it has been awarded this year’s European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) Award for one of its premier products, the Epson Perfection 4870 Photo. The Epson Perfection 4870 Photo has been voted the European Scanner of the Year for 2004-2005. The scanner was recognised by the 50 leading Photo, Video, Audio, Home Theatre and Mobile Electronics magazines from over 18 European countries for its outstanding innovation and technical excellence.
Every year, the EISA Awards applaud the new products that combine the most advanced technology, the most desirable features, the ultimate expression of design, the most satisfying ergonomics and, of course, the greatest value for money. In short, EISA recognises the features most likely to be appreciated by an enthusiastic public seeking high quality and creative products.
Described by the judges as ‘beating all competitors in this price range’, the Epson Perfection 4870 Photo offers the power and quality of a film scanner with the flexibility of a flatbed, without sacrificing the scan quality. Incorporating an unrivalled optical resolution of 4800 x 9600dpi, new DIGITAL ICE Technology and a moving TPU (transparency unit) lamp, this scanner challenges the traditional film scanner manufacturers on both quality and price.
The judges complimented the product for its fine performance characteristics, high resolution, and good colour accuracy. The judges concluded that the ‘many functions, nice design and solid construction, all add up to a high-quality scanner even for professional users.’
Yasbir Sihan, Epson’s Senior European Product Manager for Input Products said: “We are delighted with this win. Recognition from an independent and well-respected organisation such as EISA reinforces our continuing innovation and technological advances in digital imaging. The winning product is just one example of how Epson is anticipating and responding to the rapidly changing needs of the digital photography market. We are consistently setting new benchmarks for input and output flexibility, quality and durability for both the professional and amateur photographer.”
The award will be officially presented to Epson at an EISA gala awards dinner to be held on the eve of this year’s photokina in Cologne on 27 September 2004.
Epson® provides two new projectors for the classroom
Epson launches two new multimedia projectors designed to create a visual educational experience for schools with its latest innovative large screen projection technology.
August 2004 – The Epson EMP-61 (SVGA, 2000 ANSI Lumens) and the Epson EMP-81 (XGA, 2000 ANSI Lumens) projectors are designed specifically for the education market. These multimedia projectors have been engineered so that they fit perfectly into any classroom environment and enable teachers and lecturers to enhance classroom teaching through visual learning.
With fan noise as low as 30dB, the Epson EMP-61 and Epson EMP-81 are the quietest projectors in their class, and ensure that the audience’s concentration is not disturbed. At the same time, the speaker volume has been enhanced. The powerful built-in 5W speaker will provide enough volume, without an amplifier, even in large and noisy classrooms. For comfort when in use, the exhaust fan of the projectors has been placed at the front so that any air is blown away from the class. In addition, the projectors use LCD advanced imaging technology, a proven technology which has been used in classrooms for many years and provides superior energy efficiency.
The Epson EMP-61 and Epson EMP-81 come equipped with brightness control. High brightness mode (2000 ANSI Iumens) provides the ability to watch a wide variety of media in bright conditions, whereas the silent mode (1500 ANSI lumens) reduces noise levels to 30dB and is ideal for use with interactive whiteboards.
The projectors have an incredibly short start-up time (just 7 seconds) and 20 seconds cool-down time. In addition, the new one-foot stand at the front of the units allow for simple height adjustment. These features ensure both models can be set-up (and packed away) quickly and easily.
The projectors are easy to use for beginners and experts alike. Set-up routines have been made as simple as possible – just place the projector on the table, plug in, turn on and the auto keystone correction automatically detects the projector’s vertical angle and adjusts the vertical keystone distortion instantly. The help function is further improved and most problems can be solved without searching through the manual.
The control panel is designed for ease of use and there is a wide choice of connectivity, 2PC and 2 video inputs, monitor out, and audio out allowing up to 4 different media sources to be connected at once.
Neil Hartigan, Sales and Marketing Manager for Business Products says, “The education sector is growing very rapidly and there is a need for good quality, easy to use products. Our products have been designed with this in mind and represent good value for money for schools and colleges.”

Epson® provides business users with state-of-the art wireless network technology
Epson launches two new multimedia projectors for business users, with innovative large screen projection technology and auto focus feature.
August 2004 – Epson launches two new projectors, designed with the corporate business market in mind. The Epson EMP-835 and Epson EMP-830 (XGA 3000 ANSI Lumens) projectors incorporate the features of a high-end projector for the price of a mid-range unit.
The EMP-835 is a wireless LAN projector. The Epson EasyMP technology offers a range of capabilities including the wireless connectivity and security functions, PC-less presentations and network control. The EMP-835 supports the fastest and most secure wireless LAN transmission on the market today (802.11g) giving connection speeds of up to 54MBps and supporting the latest WEP, WPA and LEAP security protocols.
It is no longer essential to carry a projector and a laptop to business meetings. PC-less presentations can be carried out using the USB port to connect a USB memory key, CD ROM drive or even a digital camera. Also present in the EMP-835 is a PCMCIA card slot for presentations or information saved on a memory card. This is compatible with all flash media types and IBM Microdrive when used with the correct adaptor.
The EMP-830 is the standard version for those who do not require wireless features. As with the EMP-835 it offers 3000 ANSI LUMENS and XGA resolution.
The Epson EMP-835 and EMP-830 also feature powerful zoom and focus. The high zoom ratio (1:1:6) provides more flexibility for the presenter. A projection of 60” can be achieved from any distance between 1.8m up to 2.8m. This allows the projector to be installed in a wider range of positions, therefore coping with different room layouts.
The Auto Set-up feature in the EMP-830 and EMP-835 makes preparing for your presentation hassle free. Within 12-18 seconds the CCD sensor will automatically find the screen, correct the settings and auto-focus your image to provide a clean sharp presentation.
Neil Hartigan, Sales and Marketing Manager, Business Products says, “These projectors have been designed with the busy professional in mind. The EMP-835 and EMP 830 are ideally suited to medium or large sized organisations, especially when presenting at conferences, seminars or training facilities with large audiences. The projectors offer state-of-the-art technology, catering for the needs and demands of today’s diverse business requirements.”
