- Paper feed issues.
- Partial printing of document - printing half of the page.
EXPLANATION:
If partial pages are printed when the printer is used standalone or with the computer, the problem may be caused by incorrect positioning of the paper edge guide.
|
The paper edge guide should always be positioned against the side of the paper to enable the printer to function correctly. |
Before printing, the printer checks the paper size. If the paper edge guide is positioned incorrectly, the paper may be fed at an angle. If this happens, the bottom of the paper is therefore at an angle and not perpendicular with the paper feed rollers. This can result in the paper sensor not recognising the real page width as it can only detect a certain amount of the bottom of the paper sheet which is nearest to it.
If only part of the width of the paper is detected, the printer considers that the paper width is less than it actually is. To avoid printing on internal parts of the printer such as paper feed rollers, the printer automatically cuts the image to fit the detected paper width As this phenomenon depends on the paper feeding condition, it can be random.
To resolve this issue, do the following:
- Check the paper edge guide position and the positioning of the paper.
Figure 1: Example of the printer parts

a Edge guide Helps load the paper straight. Adjust the left edge guide so that it fits snugly to the width of your paper. b Sheet feeder Feeds a stack of paper automatically. c Paper support Supports the paper loaded in the sheet feeder. d Feeder guard Prevents objects placed on the document cover from falling inside the printer when opening the document cover. e Document cover Open and close when you place a photo or document. f Output tray Receives ejected paper. g Output tray extension Supports the ejected paper. h Scanner unit Open and close when you replace an ink cartridge. i
On buttonTurns the printer on and off. - Check that the paper size is supported by the printer.
- If printing without a computer, the supported paper sizes are detailed on the printer control panel.
- If printing from the computer, the supported paper sizes are available to select in the printer driver. User Defined/Custom sizes can be created.
- As in the illustration below, perform the following:
- Reload A4 paper short-edge first into the sheet feeder.
- Pull the paper edge guide across to the side of the paper so it makes contact with the paper. This will help guide the paper into the rollers.

- Once adjusted, close the feeder guard. If your printer has an envelope/paper thickness adjust lever, make sure that this is in the Letter/Paper (L) or 0 position. It should not be in the
Envelope position unless you are experiencing ink smear on printouts, or printing on envelopes or thick paper.
- Before printing again, enter the printer properties and check that you have selected the correct paper size.
- Click File > Print within the application.
- Highlight the printer and click on Properties.
- The Epson Printing Preferences window appears. Select the correct settings for Paper Size, Orientation, and Print Quality.
- Click OK.
- Now attempt to print again. The issue should be resolved.
- To perform a photocopy, do the following:
- Open the document cover.
- Place the original face-down on the document table glass.
- Close the document cover.
- If the control panel has a paper size setting button, make sure that the LED beside A4 is lit. If set incorrectly, press the button to select the size of paper loaded in the sheet feeder, and then press the B&W Copy button.
Note:Some models have a
Color Photo button, this is set to print onto 4 x 6 in. (10 x 15 cm) paper only. Do not press the Color Photo button as the printout is not set for A4 size on A4 paper. Also, do not select
Fit to Page for this test.
After following these steps further copies and printouts should be as expected.
