AcuLaser C1100, CX11N & CX21N: Gap, gaps or "white lines" in the print

RELATES TO:

  • One or more gaps or white lines all the way down or across the page.
  • Portrait orientation: the lines or gaps are vertical (often towards the right).
  • Landscape orientation: the lines or gaps are horizontal (often towards the bottom).
  • AcuLaser C1100, CX11N, CX21N and all variants.

EXPLANATION:

Vertical or horizontal gaps in the print occur when the laser lens is obstructed.

There are two main causes:


  1. Toner has spilled onto the lens, for example during toner cartridge replacement.

  2. One or more toner cartridges are not fully locked.

To resolve this issue, clean the print head. If the problem remains, you will need to locate and clean up any spilled toner, and may need to reinstall a toner cartridge.

    Figure 1 and Figure 2 are examples of issues that would usually be easy to resolve by cleaning the print head.


    Figure 3 is an example of the effects of a more severe toner spill inside the printer.

  2. Clean the print head.



    1. Follow the steps below to clean the print head.

      • This is a modified version of the Cleaning the Print Head procedure in your reference guide (available from the Epson website).

      • Note that the Aculaser CX11N model does not include the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) above the scanner, as pictured below.

    2. Remove the cleaner cover on the right side of the printer. Then, open Cover A.

    3. Fully extend the blue lever on the right inside the printer.

    4. Fully extend the blue cleaner, and move it slowly in and out five times.

      1. Wipe off any loose toner on the blue cleaner. A small amount of toner visible when you first extend the cleaner is a normal symptom of this issue.

      2. Move the blue cleaner completely in and out. Otherwise, the cleaning may not be effective.

    5. Push back the blue lever on the right inside the printer.

    6. Close Cover A, then the cleaner cover.

    7. Print a document, and check the print quality.


    8. If the problem remains, but the print quality has improved, repeat the procedure. Otherwise, proceed to Step 3.

  3. Check for and clean up any toner spillage.

  5. If the problem remains, contact Epson for further advice.
