There appears to be no power to the scanner. What can I do?
RELATES TO:
- The scanner does not power/turn on.
- AC adapter power supply issues.
- Epson Scanner range.
EXPLANATION:
If it appears that no power is being supplied to the scanner, follow the steps below to try to resolve the issue and determine if there is a problem with the scanner's hardware:
- Check for a power light or any other lights on the scanner
A green light indicates that there is power to the scanner and it is ready to scan. On some models, a blue light on the scanner indicates that it is busy scanning film.
If a red or amber Start light is displayed then this indicates that there is a problem with the scanner which is preventing it from operating. Attend to this first - for help we recommend referring to the scanner's user guide or viewing the following Related Article: What does the scanner's Start button light indicate?
- If there are no lights displayed on the scanner, follow the steps below, checking for power to the scanner after each step.
- If your scanner has a power button, make sure it is turned on - this would be located on either the front or the side of the scanner. (Refer to the scanner's user guide for a guide to the scanner parts.)
- Does the scanner make a noise when you power it on?
If the scanner's power or Start light does not illuminate when you power the scanner, first check for any other response from the unit, such as the start-up noise, as the LED may have blown.
- Check that the power socket switch is on
Make sure your scanner's power cord is securely connected to the scanner and a working electrical outlet.
- If your scanner is supplied with a power adapter, make sure your scanner's AC adapter is securely connected to the scanner and a working electrical outlet.
- Make sure that the power outlet works. (If necessary, test it by plugging in another electrical device and turning it on.)
- Check that the power switch is on at the mains socket. If this is on, carefully check the power cable to ensure it is not damaged and remove then reseat it before attempting to turn the scanner on again. If your scanner has a power button, make sure that the button is depressed so it is turned on. Also, make sure that your outlet works and is not controlled by a wall switch or timer.
- Power off the scanner at the mains socket. Unplug the power cable from the socket, then remove and reseat the power cable from the scanner's power cable port. Plug the scanner back in at the mains and ensure the socket is switched on.
- If your scanner has a power button, does the power button depress when pressed?
Press down firmly on the power button, if it is stiff and does not depress then there may be a problem with the button.
- Connect the scanner directly to the mains - not via a surge protector or extension lead.
If your unit is connected via a surge protector or a power strip/extension lead, connect the unit directly to the mains socket.

- Try another suitable power cable.
Check that other electronic devices connected to same power socket have power and try another mains socket and another power cable if necessary. Failing this try another suitable and known-working power cable. Depending on your scanner, a standard "kettle lead" or "figure of eight" power cable is used. If there is power to the scanner (indicated by an illuminated Start light), when a different power cable is used, then the fault is with the original power cable.
If the unit does not power on after following the checks above, contact Epson for support. If your scanner uses an AC adapter, then this may need to be replaced. If your scanner is over 12 months old, you can purchase a replacement AC adapter directly from Epson.
