When I try to install the software that came with my printer or scanner such as Epson Smart Panel or PhotoQuicker, I see an error relating to the InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe). What can I do?

EXPLANATION:


If you see one of the following messages when you try to install or launch the Epson software that came with your printer, scanner, or All-In-One, there may be a problem with the installer or a component of your Windows operating system.

    The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launched

    The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be installed

    Error installing iKernel.exe

    IKernel.exe Application Error

    The instruction "xxxxxx" reference memory at "xxxxxx". The memory could not "read".
    Click OK to terminate the program.

    The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be launched.

    The RPC server is unavailable.



This message indicates that there is a problem with a file relating to the InstallShield Wizard. The InstallShield Wizard is used to install a lot of common software. If this cannot operate, the software installation will fail. This may affect the installation of software that came bundled with your Epson product, such as Epson Smart Panel, Epson PhotoQuicker and Epson Creativity Suite.

If the message indicates that the RPC Server is unavailable, this indicates that the RPC (Remote Procedure Call) service or one of its dependencies such as the 'DCOM Server Process Launcher' service has stopped.
