I've installed the All-In-One's software for a Wi-Fi connection but I cannot print. When I check the All-In-One's control panel, there is a valid IP address assigned to the All-In-One (it starts with 192.xxx or 172.xxx). What should I do?
RELATES TO:
- Wireless (Wi-Fi) Infrastructure networking (where a wireless access point/router is used)
- Communication issues - printing fails
- These Wi-Fi or Ethernet enabled All-In-Ones:
- Stylus Office BX310FN (Ethernet only), BX320FW, BX525WD, BX600FW, BX610FW, BX625FWD
- Stylus Photo PX700W, Stylus Photo PX710W, Stylus Photo PX800FW, Stylus Photo PX810FW
- Stylus SX420FW, SX425FW, SX510W, SX515W, SX525WD, SX600FW, SX610FW, SX620FW
EXPLANATION:
If the All-In-One has a valid IP address (that starts 192.xxx.xxx.xxx - or 172.xxx.xxx.xxx for corporate networks), this confirms that a connection has been made with the wireless access point or router. The network connection status will also be indicated on the control panel of the All-In-One.
The problem may be that whilst the printer is set up for a network connection, the correct network settings may not have been applied to the printer driver and software.
- In Mac OS X, you should add the EPSON printer which has EPSON TCP/IP or Bonjour displayed next to it.
- In Windows, an EpsonNet Print Port or Standard TCP/IP Port should be added, set to the printer's IP address.
Do the following:
- Print a network status sheet to confirm the network settings. For help with this step, see the following Related Article: How do I print a network status sheet?.
Note:Both the IP address and network connection status can be checked via Confirm Settings in the Setup > Network Settings menu, via the network status sheet, or in the EpsonNet Config/EpsonNet Print software.
- Check the network status sheet and confirm the items listed in the table below.
Example of a good network connection - network status sheet items Wireless Mode ON Link Status Connect Signal Condition Excellent Status Connection OK
- If a valid IP address is listed and the items match those in the table, then the printer has successfully connected to the network. Move to the next step.
- If a valid IP address is not listed, or a valid address is listed but not all items match those in the table, then there is a problem with the network connection - see the following Related Article: Wireless Networking: Troubleshooting printing, scanning and network connection problems
- Make sure that the printer driver is set to the correct port.
Mac OS X
When you add the printer, it should be added via EPSON TCP/IP or Bonjour.
- You can check the port via System Preferences > Print & Fax.
- Click on the Epson printer in the list and click
Delete. Then click on
Add.
- The Printer Browser window appears.
- Mac OS 10.3.9: Click on the pull-down menu at the top and select EPSON TCP/IP. The Epson printer should appear under this menu, click on the Epson printer to highlight it and then click Add.
- Mac OS 10.4.x (Tiger): Click on More Printers then, in the window that opens, click on the pull-down menu at the top and select EPSON TCP/IP. The Epson printer should appear under this menu, click on the Epson printer to highlight it, the printer name should appear under 'Print Using' and then click Add.
- Mac OS 10.5.x (Leopard) and 10.6.x (Snow Leopard): The Epson printer should appear in this list with EPSON TCP/IP. Click on the Epson printer to highlight it, the printer name should appear under 'Print Using' and then click Add. If an entry with EPSON TCP/IP is not listed, add the Epson printer which appears with Bonjour.
Note:The printer name that appears in the Printer Browser may be 'EPSONXXXXXX' (where 'XXXXXX' is the last 6 digits of the printer's MAC address).
Make sure that you have installed the latest updates via Software Update.
In Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6), inbox drivers are already included with the OS for the Stylus Office B40W, Stylus Office BX600FW, Stylus SX600FW, Stylus Photo PX700W, Stylus Photo PX800FW. The Epson Printer Drivers Update package, which is delivered via Apple's Software Update, contains drivers for Stylus SX510W, Stylus SX515W, Stylus Office BX610FW, Stylus SX610FW. For the Stylus Photo PX710W and PX810FW, the bundled Epson software CD-ROM contains Snow Leopard (10.6) compatible drivers.

- Once the printer has been added, set the Default Paper Size to A4 and then attempt to print from Text Edit (in Applications).
- If it prints, the printer is ready for use and printing from Macintosh programs should now be normal. For help confirming if the Epson Scan software is set up for scanning over the network connection, see the Related Articles section.
- If it fails to print, then there is a problem with the network communication or a printer or computer settings problem. See the following Related Article for help: Wireless Networking: Troubleshooting printing, scanning and network connection problems
Windows
This should display the printer's IP address in the Ports tab of the printer's Properties. If it is set to a different port (e.g. 'LPT1', 'COM1', 'PORT', 'USB Virtual Printer Port') you will need to add the printer port.
Do the following:
- Open the Printers folder from Control Panel or the start menu. See the following Related Article if you require help with this step: How to open the Printers or Printers and Faxes folder in Windows.
- An icon for your Epson printer should be present.
Note:If an icon for your Epson printer is not listed, the driver is not installed. Install the printer software from the CD-ROM, download from the Epson website (see Related Article How to download Drivers from the Epson website).
If there is more than one icon for your Epson printer, such as 'Epson Stylus SX610FW Series' and 'Epson Stylus SX610FW Series (Copy 1)', right-click on the most recent 'Copy' and set it as the default printer. Then proceed with the instructions below.
- Right-click on the Epson printer icon and left-click on Properties.
- In the Properties window, click on Ports.
- Check the port setting in the white box under 'Print to the following port(s)?'
- The port that has a tick beside it should be show its IP address (as confirmed on the network status sheet). If it is set to a different port (e.g. 'LPT1', 'COM1', 'PORT', 'USB Virtual Printer Port') you will need to add the printer port.
- In Ports, click on Add Port.

- A window will appear with a choice of ports to add, click on EpsonNet Print Port from the list, and then click on New Port.

- The Add EpsonNet Print Port Wizard will appear, displaying a list of printers detected on the network. Select the target device (printer or All-In-One) from the list, and then click Next. If the target device is not in the list, click Search Again.

- The summary of the device and port will be displayed, the default Port Type listed will be either IP Address(Auto) or IP Address(Manual). We recommend selecting IP Address(Auto) from the pull-down menu, however this can be changed as required. Click Finish.
The following items are listed in the pull-down menu, and you can select the port type you need:
- IP Address(Auto): Configure the port automatically. If the IP address of the printer is acquired automatically and the computer and the printer are in the same segment, you can select this port type.
- IP Address(Manual): Use the printer's IP Address for the port name.
- HostName (DNS): Use the printer's host name registered in the DNS server for the port name.
- MS Network: Use the NetBIOS name registered in the printer for the port name.

- It will return to the Add Port window, click Close.
- In the Ports window, locate the port you added - it should display the port name or IP address. Click into the checkbox beside it to select it, and then click on Apply to set the port.
Note:If you do not have the choice of EpsonNet Print Port, this means that EpsonNet Print has not been installed. You can download EpsonNet Print from the Epson support website or install it from the Epson printer or Epson print server software CD-ROM.
Alternatively, you can select Standard TCP/IP Port, and then click New Port.... The Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard window will appear. Click on Next. Enter the printer's IP address into the printer name or IP address field. The IP address will also be entered as the port name, which can be changed if preferred. Click Next. Windows will attempt to check the given IP address. Once complete, click Finish. Follow the steps above to complete the port configuration.
- In Ports, click on Add Port.
- The printer driver should now be configured, try printing a Test Page from the General tab to test this. Click OK to close the printer Properties window.
- If the Test Page prints, printing from Windows programs should now be normal. For help confirming if the Epson Scan software is set up for scanning over the network connection, see the Related Articles section.
- If the Test Page fails to print, this indicates that there is either a problem with the network communication or a problem with the settings of the printer or computer.
