Portugal biodiversity project

Epson is delighted to be sponsoring the replanting of 40 hectares of forest and restoring of biodiversity that was sadly destroyed by forest fires in central Portugal over five years ago. The project is located in the Centre Interior of Portugal on the slopes of the Gardunha Mountain in the Municipality of Fundao. The location is also a “Natura 2000” site, which is the centrepiece of EU Nature and biodiversity policy.

We are committed to only planting trees that originally grew there, like the European Oak and Chestnut, which are not viable as commercial crops. Hopefully we’ll be able to reintroduce animal species to the area in the not-too-distant future.

This project is supported by Fundao Municipality, Spea Portugal (Portuguese Birdlife Association), Pinus Verde, Gardunha Verde, Gardunha21, Morris and Chapman and are endorsed by the European Commission. Further partnerships  - especially those that enhance and enrich the environment - are currently being investigated.
